This might not be the appropriate section but i think it fit better here then in the 1 gen built section cause most solid axle are dual case....

I want to add a dual case (4.7 taco box) in front of my chain driven case on my 2001 tacoma 3.4 4x4 automatic with ADD tcase. I will be swapping the ADD case out with a j pattern tcase from a earlier year tacoma. Im in the process of doing a manual hub conversion as well.

My question is: do anyone know if i have to swap the input shaft from my ADD case over to the J pattern tcase? Or will the J pattern case be compatible?

Thanks for any help and advice

Input is the same on both. 23 spline on the 3.4 and 26 spline on the 2.7

J shift 3.4 v6 and ADD push button shift 3.4 v6 use the same input, 3.4 V6 use 23 spline input.

J shift 2.7 I4 and ADD push button shift 2.7 I4 use the same input, 2.7 I4 use 26 spline input.

Also check here for more info, one of the good technical threads left without too much bs.

    Why are you swapping inputs?

Just go on car-part and get a v6 j-shift case or just keep your electronically shifting case. V6 cases are all over the place...I think I literally threw one away a couple of years ago.

yes and no, 2.7 has different spline depending on auto vs manual

    v6 is 23
    4cyl 5speed is 26 and auto is 23

If you have the push button and do the grey wire mod, with a 4.7 tacobox you get

    2hi
    2lo
    2 lo in 4.7
    2 double lo

    4hi
    4lo
    4 lo in 4.7
    4 double lo

    No need for twin sticks

    Ask me how I know...

It allows you to use your elocker in 2wd, and somehow it made it so I could have 2 wheel drive low
