Added a raised LEER camper shell + a sleeping platform build-out with lighting for camping.
I'm considering upgrading my stock suspension with an OME kit and am trying to figure out if I go with the heavy or light kit.

    My current truck specs:
-06 tacoma, double cab, 6' bed with raised leer camper shell (approximately 150 lbs)
    Possible future additions:
-aluminum bumper (Apex or pelfreybilt) I believe they're around 60-100 lbs, roof rack with an awning.

I carry camping gear/skis for weekend trips, but not carrying around for daily driving.

I'm looking for a smooth ride, both on highway and on the back roads.

    Any input would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

The price is the same for both kits and ARB tech said if I get the heavier kit without the weight it's going to be a very stiff/rough ride.

Depends on your specific vehicle and how it is set up.
I had a 2nd gen for a while with OME 886's (Heavy) and Dakar's + Add a leaf. Truck had almost 200 extra lbs in front with winch and bumper, no extra weight in rear. Rode like hell until I pulled the Add-a-leaf out, then it rode great.

The heavy pack is just the medium duty with an AAL. So buy the heavy and take out the leaf until you get the bumper and add other weight.

Just to be clear I was referring to just the rear springs, the 95r vs 96r. If your talking the full suspension kits then the only difference is the front coils, the leaf packs are medium in both kit.

I'm considering replacing my stock bumper with this apex aluminum bumper. Don't think I'll be adding a wench.

Good call I would add a “wench” either, haha. But honestly if your only add a bumper the 886 coils will be overkill. I would look @HeadStrong Off-Road, they can get that kit for a better price. Plus you can pick which ever coils you want to get the height you want. You’ll also need UCAs if you want your alignment to not suck.

    Thanks for the heads up!

Do I need UCA's for the 2" OME kit? A tech at the 4x4 garage said I would need them for a 2.5" lift or higher, but not necessarily for a 2" lift...

For the 885 kit or light kit you will most likely be ok without UCAs. Your castor will be low but the truck should still drive fine. If you go with the heavy kit with 886 coils you definitely need UCAs. How much lift are you looking for?

I would ideally like a 3" lift, but am good with a 2" lift. The price point jumps up if I upgrade to a 3" lift and I'd like to keep the costs down.

Between the two the light seems like a better option for you. You will see about 2.5” initially with that kit in the front but it should settle down some. Once you add a bumper you’ll probably end up around 2” in the front. For the rear they usually settle to about 2” with a shell on. So you’ll have about 1.5-2” of rake all said and done. Again don’t order through ARB go to headstrongoffroad.com they will get you a better price and have great customer service.

Yea I don't think you have enough weight in the front for the 886 coils. I have the ARB bumper and M8000 warn winch, but it rode rough until I put steel IFS and Mid skids on it. I also put in a dual battery kit around the same time.

Edit: I am on E-rated tires though, but it rides great now with all the weight I have on it

The 886 coils with just a bumper (especially a light one like you want) and no winch will be brutally stiff and you will have to air down just to drive a gravel road. The ride will be so stiff and jarring that you will wear out body mounts etc and you will have very little articulation. Even with a heavy ARB bumper and no winch the 886 are much to stiff. Mine were so stiff I had zero nose dive under hard braking. If I were you I would go with the 887 springs and it would be prefect, along with the softer OME struts.. Should turn out something like a 2 inch lift with your 60-100 lbs bumper. Put in extended top plate studs right away that way you can add a small spacer if you do need a tiny bit more lift down the road. At the end I had an ARB bumper + 887 +3/8" spacers and it was PERFECT with about 2 3/4" inch lift.
