I tow a 4200lb (weighed) 8ft wide camper and regularly get around 10mpg. I've yet to tow it any long distance since I got the tune though. But then the week after after I installed the tuned I added one size larger e rated AT tires lol so I think I'm evened out. /praying for 1.05 magic :)

Just couldn't wait for 1.05, wanted to see what the latest TSB hype is all about.

Flashed T-0034-18.cuw on my 04B03 ECU, turn ignition off/on, then flashed 1.04R 91, idle 5 minutes (engine was warm from commute earlier).

WOW! 1.04R is the most civilized this Tacoma has ever been, I've used SSP Pro, and OVT for last 12 months.

Shifting have never been smoother, up AND down shift are very predictable, no jumpy or harsh feel. I had the dreaded downshift clunk on 1.04, went back to 1.03, with over 3000 miles on 1.03, I still can't stand the aggressive throttle tip-in.

Drove 12 miles on 1.04R, no clunk, throttle tip-in is perfect. On right turns, brake to gas transitions are smooth and civilized, regardless of speed, this was a problem on 1.03, sometimes transmission can't decide which gear to use. Only drove on highway briefly, it did just fine, held 5th on inclines as expected, downshifts from 6th to 5th was smoother than 1.03.

1.04R lost a bit of "peppiness" compared to 1.03, I trade that for the civilized smooth driving experience any day. Excited to see what 1.05 will bring.

Could you share that 1.04R file with me?

I had a VERY pronounced stumble when making a left hand turn into an intersection today on 1.04R - 87oct. Right when I thought it was gone...

It was bad enough that that the seat belt locked when my body unexpectedly lunged forward. essentially ~80% throttle to 0% in no time flat.

Aren't tune files specific to your trucks ECU?

Yes, specific for the ECU ID 04B04. No, not specific for each individual truck

Any possibility it was traction control? Reason I ask is I did not modify anything Toyota adjusted to fix that stumble that the TSB claims to fix.

Will be finished with the trip tomorrow and knock out some pending emails tomorrow evening.

Just got my hands on the tune, been driving on 1.04 91 for a week now. I can't believe how much it's improved the truck. My last vehicle was a Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.7, and I can finally say that I no longer miss it. That's a huge step for me. I know the 5.7 didn't have that much more horsepower over the Tacoma at ~330hp, but it was much smoother and just did what I told it to do, no fighting back. Jeep wasn't perfect, drive-by-wire had some ridiculous lag sometimes, but I knew how to work with it. Tacoma was just annoying as shit.

With the stock tune, if I was behind a slow car, wanted to pass, but saw that traffic was coming up from behind, I would usually just say fuck it and accept that I was stuck going slow. With 1.04, I have the confidence that the truck will downshift, STAY in that lower gear instead of shifting back up after 2 seconds because I'm not flooring it, and allow me to accelerate and pass.

Don't feel like writing very much right now, but WOW this thing is amazing. So many subtle improvements in my daily driving. I've fallen in love with the truck all over again.

Idk if it’s just me but I can’t really tell much of a difference between how the truck was running before and after 1.04 91 tune. I’ve been running the truck with a cat back exhaust and AFE Intake system for a while and didn’t really have complaints about how it was before the tune. Only been running the tune a couple weeks so far so very limited input. Think I’m ready for the 93 tune or maybe a supercharger( cough cough hurry up magneson)

Me thinks you should search this thread for "TT" or "Twin Turbo"....

I know Matt has been talking tt, that wouldn’t be a bad option less parasitic loss and better efficiency. Don’t get that cool winding sound but get the cool waist gauge like my gli. I could totally see myself dropping a penny or two on a tt setup but I will anxiously wait for 93 tune to come out

    Guys,

I currently have on my truck the 04B03 1.04 91 octane.
How can I update to 04B04 1.04R 91 octane? and also how can I update my flash manager. Currently I have the v1.09

Is there any step by step to complete the update?

FN wheels' version of the TRD Pro 4Runner, TRD Pro front skid plate, Low Range Offroad 3/1 lift, JBA Offroad upper control arms, TRD Pro Shift knob, OV Tuned, 4.88s, 285/70/17 BFG KO2s

You will either need to see if your local Toyota dealer will give you the latest Toyota version (B0400) or download and install TechStream, obtain the CUW file, then flash the truck yourself. Once your ECU version has been updated to B0400 then you can flash to 1.04R.

Is this coming from stock to 1.04? If you can't tell that difference then I'm not sure the flash succeeded!
