I thought I had no mpg gain from 1.04 87 over stock, but really I had compensated for mpg increase by having too much fun driving. Got a ticket, calmed down a bit, and seeing probably around 2 mpg higher.

If I have 04B12 right now in my MT how would I go about getting 04B13?

Sounds like when Mat/ @OVTune releases 1.05, it will include all of the changes that cane with 04B13 anyway. Just the ID will be different from what it would be from Toyota. I'm assuming this means if you elect to wait for Mat's update, your ECU version will still be 04B12?

@MOC221_ @Shellshock any wisdom to share? I've actually been considering just doing two flashes basically, once 1.05 releases. One to bring me up to 04B13 and then immediately afterwards to update with 1.05, if the alternative is running 04B12 1.05...i dont think my dealer would, but I'd prefer them to not just update me without telling me ahead of time. This way, they'd think there's no reason to do the update during servicing

Why do you care what the version number says? He can make it "ILikeTrees" if he wants, it's still the same thing

I believe @mZiggy reasoning is if he were at the dealer for something and they saw 04B12 and the available 04B13 they might update his truck, overwriting the OVTune. But if he had 04B13 before OVTune it would just look like 04B13 and no update would show up, eliminating the possibility of overwriting.

Ok, but what is the tune based on? The underlying code?

The tables within the file, the revision or name is irrelevant apart from keeping track of what you're on. His new turbo ID is OVBoost01 for instance.

When taking a truck into Toyota for warranty work , they cannot tell if it has an ovtune if it has the same as stock ECU calibration #. If the truck has Twin turbos on it , well , they will most likely be noticed so the ecu calibration # being changed is not a problem so long as they see they need to leave it alone . If you do not have turbos , you want Toyota to think it is a stock tune and the # from OVTune says it is . If you have turbos you do not want Toyota to reflash it , and the warranty for the engine is done anyway , so the name for a turbo tune should not be the same as a stock tune .

I don't know if I agree with this statement. Mat's enhancements to a particular OEM calibration change many things (throttle, ignition, VVT, shift points etc). He has stated a few times now that there is a boatload of other code that he does not alter. For example, how something such as "requested torque" is actually calculated (the math). So, if Toyota improves "the math" in a later calibration, it absolutely does matter what a new OVtune is based on. That's what I'm trying to say.

    ie 04B13 > 04B12

Yeah that's what i was getting at. I've been taking my 4R and now my Tacoma to this dealer for about 5 years now and they're no strangers to aftermarket stuff and I don't have the impression they'd overwrite without first asking, but i was just kinda hypothesizing. It's not really an issue if they overwrote the tune, i could just rewrite when I got home. Just would be an annoyance is all

If the truck had turbos on it and they overwrote with a different map (I'm assuming that's what you meant? It's what i read it as) then that is absolutely a problem lol

I feel like they would be smart enough not to fuck with a truck that has turbos on it.

I just assume anything the dealer can mess up, they will. You can go in and beg for an update and not get it. Then go in for an oil change and surprise they updated you. I’d just update it yourself then not have to worry.

I don’t plan on making any more trips to the dealer unless something catastrophic happens or I’m buying a new truck

not irrelevant. i don't even need to know more to be able to say this.
exactly. it's more than the maps. if there are conditional statement and dependencies in the code that shit cannot be totally and effectively reverse engineered, which probably describes why this release is on another level of smoothness and consistency than the previous OV releases. Toyota has provided far more than updated mapping in 04B13 from previous.
