Their development cycle is just slower. They’ve been listening, just taking their sweet a$$ time to write new code.

FN wheels' version of the TRD Pro 4Runner, TRD Pro front skid plate, Low Range Offroad 3/1 lift, JBA Offroad upper control arms, TRD Pro Shift knob, OV Tuned, 4.88s, 285/70/17 BFG KO2s
Been loading OV tunes, analyzing, improving, and then releasing TSBs is what Toyota has been doing... 2019s will be releasing with 307 HP and 293 Trq. Similar to the change from the 2012-2013 Mustang. Same engine but more power because of tuning refinement... this is all sarcasm BTW

With his R&D truck sporting twin turbos, unless he get's another truck or he keeps adding/removing the turbo kit, it's gonna be hard for him to keep working on both tunes. And now he has to account for ALL those ECU versions and now that he's supporting this engine/tranny combo in all parts of the world. Future releases are going to be slow and rare.

As far as I'm aware this engine/trans combo is only available in north american Tacomas

He may have Tacoma owners with the various ECUs testing and data logging for him. I believe I remember folks doing that for him with previous tunes.

Yes. Idk about the autos but MT owners assisted with the MT version development of 1.04A, just to name one example.

With the logging that will be available, he won’t need to develop using his truck. 1.05 will be the baseline with custom tuning available if desired

"Here is 1 of the major issues, the exact same transmission (auto) is in the tacoma (Mexico version, South American version) and Prado (China, Australia) with different shift control tables. You can take just the OEM "USA" shift tables, plug it into the Mx vehicles and the truck cannot shift."

Indeed he has helped the MT guys through data logging and feedback. Don't get me wrong, I'm as happy with 1.04 as anybody and waiting for 1.05 as much as anybody. But that post makes me think all the variants of markets and code releases makes thorough testing just that much harder which will affect release cadence.

This is the first new vehicle I've ever bought and I knew I wanted a Tacoma because I'll have it forever. DCLB TRD OR 4x4. I remember taking one of my friends on a drive a few days after I bought it and flooring it at a light, and being extremely embarrassed at the underwhelming acceleration, as my sports car driving friend tried his best to act impressed, bless his heart. It's a midsize off-road truck with a V6, I test drove it and understood that... but still. It felt like we are already off road and spinning out in the sand. I knew this truck should have been faster with the engine it has.
And the manic depressive transmission in this truck is enough to make ME mental. It starts shifting up and down repeatedly for no reason sometimes!
After reading 40+ pages in this thread, and sifting through all the info (good, bad, and ugly), these quoted posts sealed the deal. This tune sounds like exactly what I was looking for.
    A few questions:
-When I take my truck in to be serviced, will the techs recommend I get flashed with one of the new Toyota ECU upgrades?
-These new Toyota ECU versions are still nowhere near as good as the OV Tune, right?
-Should I wait for the 1.05 version before flashing?
Sorry if these are dumb questions, but I'm a taco newbie and I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing, and some people on this thread obviously know what they are talking about. Thanks in advance for any help or advice!

The techs will not reccomend the new tsb unless they're awesome haha, people have to damn near sell an arm to get anything done usually.

The toyota tsb is better than the previous version they had, but the ovtune is still better.

You can get the truck flashed now if you want, 1.05 is supposed to combine what toyota has developed and what ovtune has done into one.

It seems as though everyone who isn’t tuned is ranting and raving about the new TSB updates. I have my 10k service this morning I’m going to push to get the programming done because I’m very close with the service Advisor there and overwrite my 1.04 to see what it’s all about.

Shhhhh.. we want him to buy a M/T for development! :smack:

In all seriousness, logging can only take you so far. Mat needs to feel what's happening on the truck as he makes changes.. especially to throttle.

Besides, the red turd will soon be used strictly for flogging the twins.

    Just my opinion.

Will the TSB also recommend premium gas, or can you run regular (87 octane) with it?
