I wonder if the crank sensor is affecting the behavior of the engine with the tune...does not seem to, but I imagine it has the potential. Since installing the tune, the idle rpm is just above 550, whereas before it was resting at 650/700. Both in drive. On another subject, I am seeing amazing throttle response improvement. I am above 9000 feet, so I am running somewhat lean as it is. The throttle response with the tune is like a 1:1 ratio. The engine revs right on throttle press. I have a CAI, so the throttle plate movement can easily be heard in conjunction with the pull from the engine being so immediate. Another interesting point is the power difference I can feel at lower altitude. I am down at 5500 feet in ABQ a couple times a month, and I don't really notice much change after driving "down" 170 miles or so. That said, when I drive back up, the power slowly drops off to a noticeable degree, while throttle response gets sharper and sharper...

This is what I have been waiting for.
More and more people are getting some miles in on this tune and reviews are slowing getting out. I like some of things I'm reading. Keep em coming ladies and gentleman.

Agreed, and with 1.02 just around the corner it's only gonna get better!

The test tune he sent me last night on my MT truck to fix the stutter is like that magic water on space jam. It feels way different. I don't know if it's any different than the alpha 1.01 tune but it sure as hell feels different. My truck will roll now. It almost does not feel like it has 285's on it. It pulls way better in every gear. I usually dread pulling my 16 ft trailer even empty because it would bog the truck down so bad. I could feel it back there but barely. The low end feels better than my 07 fj cruiser and similar to 15 4Runner i traded in on this truck.

I have had the tune installed for a little over 3 weeks. I only drive my Tacoma on the weekends, so I have approximately 1100 miles on it. Usually, I drive it Thursday afternoon through Sunday afternoon. I drive 170 miles to ABQ from Red River, NM which takes me from 9830 feet down to 5500 feet in the city. The drive consists of 90 miles of two lane road through lots of steep mountains, hills, and canyons down into flat high desert freeway. Then I drive back up on Sunday. The changes to the power delivery (AT) in regard to climbing hills and mountains are night and day. Really amazing. It used to be a trip in 3rd and 4th gear only to be honest. Now I get to see 5th gear a good bit. It will even climb a slight hill in 5th now. I run 265/70/17, so not big enough to drastically affect the final drive ratio. The major differences I see are in throttle response and midrange pull. 2300 to 4000 has improved remarkably. ECT mode is sick, especially while driving around town, or up short, steep hills. It is clearly not perfected, but there are no noticeable problems that I am experiencing. It shifts better, but there is still room for improvement. The trans is just smoother going up and down, you might even say it is calmer as it moves through the gears. ECT mode gives me quick sharp upshifts with that big boost in torque in the midrange rpms. Throttle response up to half throttle is nearly 1:1 for press of pedal to throttle plate movement. You can easily hear the plate open and draw air because of the CAI. Wot is different. It seems like I get more punch from half throttle then wot (steadily pressing to the floor)in contrast to simply standing on it. My work truck is a 16' Ram 1500 5.7, and I drive this during the week. Of course the Tacoma will never have this level of HP or torque, but it has drastically improved, and it looks like @OVTune is going to squeeze a little more out of the little 2GR for us in the weeks to come. Honestly, I almost bought a 14" Raptor about a month ago after a test drive one afternoon. That night, I was on TW and @OVTune had just posted his first message about the tune. After reading it, I decided to wait and give it a try and I am glad I did. The tune package is worth more than what Mat is asking in my opinion, because the drivability of the truck can now be classified as normal for a V6 midsize truck.

With posts like this it's getting harder to resist the temptation of ordering one for myself. I'm thinking the next update will be the one that pushes me over the edge.
Glad you posted your review and opinion of the tune.

    Thank you.

This is great to hear! I am in Dallas now but heading to the mountains between Carlsbad and Ruidosa this week. I am fully loaded as I mentioned in one of my posts on this thread and so the elevation and how the tacoma will handle it with the added weight, have been on my mind. Your review has shed some light on it and I hope to add to this during this week.

    Help!

I downloaded all the drivers and started at page 11. Everything is connected/plugged in. When I open pcmflash and click on the red circle, it says the USB dongle is not accessible. Is this the 20 minute process? There's a blue light flashing on the dongle and different color lights flashing on thing plugged into ODB port. I've checked all connections, etc and I still get the USB dongle is not accessible.

This happens to me. Close pcmflash, leave cables, dongle connected and reopen. May have to do this a few times before dongle is recognized and able to read ecu.

I took my truck into the dealership with the tune installed to get the shutter looked into. They said I needed an update to fix it. From everything I've gathered I understand there are 3 versions of software from Toyota. I had the second version before that tune. The dealership installed the third version and never mentioned a thing about if I did anything the truck. This was all under warranty and I left without paying a dime. I haven't installed the tune back in because I'm waiting for 1.02 so I can do a review of stock to this version. I can 100% tell is back to stock. Version 1.01 makes the truck drive like you think it should. Stock just sucks. I'm really excited for 1.02

Same issue here, and I have been trying for like two weeks. Any success yet? I have disconnected everything and restarted PCM flash dozens of times, but no joy.

No luck. I tried about 4/5 times and took a break from it. I emailed Matt to see what he said and posted here to see if anyone else had this issue and how they fixed it.

I had that problem. Realized I downloaded the dongle drivers but did not actually install the drivers.

Oh, I know I'm doing something wrong. Now that I think of it, I downloaded the drivers, but didn't install them. I'll try that first.
