I had one that was looser than the others but not to the extent others have seen getting blow by.

Little of this, little of that.
Which tune from the Tacoma pack offers the best MPG? Also what is a succinct difference between the options?

Not only possibly loose, but when you change them make sure you get the EXACT factory plug gap (which I believe to be .032” if I remember correctly).

I tried some plugs that looked identical to the factory plug (3 prong NGK Iridium), but they were .040” gap and the truck ran odd and got -3/4 mpgs over the week I tried it. Switched to correct plug (sorry cannot recall part #) and the oddities were gone.

Waiting for someone to chime in and post, "I didn't buy a truck for MPG. If you're worried, should've gotten a Prius."

You do make a good point but I still want to do the best I can. Although I think I do better than most right now with an avg of 23 mpg.

That is crazy good from my experience. Highest I've seen was 18ish. But average daily I see 14-15. Most highway trips I get a hair above 17. It is what it is. LOL

Thanks for the good info. I just checked mine and they were not loose. I wonder why some are loose like that.

Probably the same reason some are low on trans fluid

13 ft lbs for Gen 3 Tacos.

I believe 15 ft lbs for Gen 2.

Anyone have this on their 2020? I've only had my rig for about 500 miles but I honestly don't think the way it drives is too bad at all. (It's a truck after all) Occasionally there is a slight lag when mashing the gas but it seems to shift fine. I'm sure I need some more seat time to get more accustomed to it but so far, so good. With that said, if people with 2020's are finding that the vehicle drives a lot better after the OVTune, I'd strongly consider doing this mod. :D

With the range of MPG's and truck behaviors reported here, does anyone have thoughts on whether there is some sort of drivetrain friction, or load, that varies between our trucks?

Example: Does the rear differential assembly (not gear choice) have opportunities to introduce MPG loss if it's not assembled exactly right? If not rear diff, maybe transmission, or transfer case?

I suspect its all load - heavy tires, armor, hills, or even just a lead foot.

From what I understand nearly all of the efficiency improvements from second gen to third gen are in the low rpm, low load regime. Get above that magic engine load number, and you’re not gonna see any improvement.

But like many internet theorists I have no data to back my hypothesis up.

If I was only getting 14 MPG, I'd Definitely be driving a Tundra !

Yeah, I've never got that low of mileage even when being aggressive around town.
