That is good. Isn't it a common theme that the truck will not hold a gear going up a hill? Maybe I am just reading these posts incorrectly.

Depends on the hill. Dont expect to hold 5th on 3k -4k passes while keeping up with a speed limit. Even drive by "bale wire" cars cannot maintain that.

I don't wanna cluster f this thread even more, but can somebody explain to me in a private message the breakdown of how vF tuner will work for flashing other trucks. I have the current kit (not USB) and license already now but wanna buy vF Tuner and flash my friend's truck for him.

All I know right now is I will need to buy vF Tuner for $79, after that, I don't understand what I need to buy to start flashing my truck and friends with that software.

    Thanks

Little of this, little of that.
If I'm getting this tune, would getting a TSB before make any difference or would the tune override any benefit a TSB would offer?

Yeah, update first, then tune. Isn’t a requirement, but will provide better final results.

Okay thank you. I'm trying to look up what TSB(s) I should try to get for my truck but I'm having some difficulty. You have essentially the same truck as me except I have a SR5. Would you happen to know what one I would need or how to find it?

You can do it yourself. All the instructions and files you need are in this thread

Get the update from the dealership or you can do it at home yourself.

Hopefully, that's all it is and I can eventually fix it with vF tuner. This lack of shifting (thus acceleration) with so much pedal input is illogical. I'd own a manual if the wife wasn't so uncoordinated.

Doesn't matter what TSB you get for your truck cause as long as it's for your model year, every TSB will update you to 04B04.
Follow Shellshocked's link and it'll tell you what to download and how to do it then thank Tonered for making a great tutorial

Well thank you both!! I wasn’t sure how the TSBs worked but what you’re saying and the link helped a ton. For simplicity’s sake I made an apt with my local Toyota dealer to have them do the TSB for me.

Just sayin', but it wouldn't hurt to be prepared for disappointment. That is the main reason the ECU Update thread is still alive.

    Disappointment about what?

If it’s that it doesn’t make the truck drive as good as it should, I’m getting my OVtune soon to take care of the rest. I was just told to get the TSB first because it’s better to do so.

personally I wouldn't bother with the dealership. Often times they make you jump through hoops to get the service that you are owed and even then, sometimes they still won't do it for you. There are numerous threads about it here. If you do it yourself not only do you get the updated ECU version but you gain a valuable tool to be able to understand your truck and are able to diagnose and modify factory settings (like seatbelt and door chimes and blinker functions and other shizz that Toyota will charge you to do). The more you understand your vehicle the less dependent you are on the dealership and others

No. Disappointment because the dealer gives you the run around and refuses to do it. Thats what happens to a lot of people here. Hence why we’ve done it ourselves
