I guess, if it is not a common point of failure, it does not make a whole lot of sense to swap it out, even if the access is simple and easy.

I have no idea if I will ever do an SC.

Monte got a question for u man. ive been lookin at all kinds of swing out carriers but they are pricey. i was thinkin about to be a little cheaper goin with the Relentless rear bumper and then have a guy i know with welding skills help me fab up a tire carrier. do u know any cheaper but good quality plate bumpers and the type i should go with. Elite? Relentless? CBI? Thanks dude.

    Hey man.

Yea swingout bumpers are quiet pricey  Elite and CBI are the only plate bumpers i am aware of that have side protection that isn't tube. CBI has both really..tube or plate side protection..

If you go with CBI might as well pay for the Tire carrier. They are a great shop and make a kick out swingout setup. Have seen two in person. Their work is top notch. Plus, very fast turn around time considering.

Elite would be a good one, a build to go keep an eye on is Steve's here: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-builds/173699-sanders-02-dc-build.html
He is about to add a dual swingout i believe to his elite bumper. That said, addign one will be pretty tricky as the Elite is very slim and tight to the body as it is. Tim has only ever made one, mine. And not sure he wants to do it again..might though. But..it ain't cheap..and i have had to modifiy it lots.

Relentless looks like it would be a good platform to build one off of. I bet Eric would even "pre build" it for a spindle or send it with a spindle in it and you can do the rest. Or im sure he could do it all for you. However, he is not really known for fast turn around times. But he does do awesome work.

I always thought the Trail Gear tube bumper would be easy to add a swingout too. Joey here:http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-builds/261997-tonto27s-go-anywhere-build.html is planning on doing it at some point..hopefully..He has been slacking on it..haha

Badlands makes a nice rear bumper too that i think would also be easy to add a spindle too.

then there is the option of just flat out building your own. Adam's trunk (Boxrocket)im sure your well aware of is a good example as well as his build for Paul's truck (ponethousand). Alex made a nice simple one too. http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/1st-gen-builds/246313-flashs-96tacoma-build.html

Eric at Relentless sells rear bumper mounting plates too that would really make making a rear bumper very easy.

It's not a cheap endeavour no matter what..parts for a swing out are pricey and time is money too. But totally worth it.

If i could get one with what options are available..id probably either just build my own or go CBI.

Hope that helps man! Let me know if i can help any other way.

Thanks a lot Monte!! u are about the only one that went in full detail about the question and i appreciate it a lot dude. like i said i knew they were going to be pricey but well worth it. i have been researching a lot on them now and didnt know who would be the best company to go with and has a fast turn around too.

If i was to go with just a plate bumper like Steven (sanders1036) went with and make my own tire carrier then which model per say would u go with such as (outback 1.0) from CBI or the type from elite. heres the thing though i know a guy that has good welding skills cause he has done it a long time now but i dont know if i get into something like this if it will cost me more trying to save a little money with him helping with a tire swing out. IDK?

I can tell you the Elite turn around time vs the CBI will be miles different. You'll have the CBI usually within 2 weeks some times faster if its already built. No more then 3 weeks.

Still sounds long ya? Well..took me 4.5 months for my rear..haha

3 weeks just got a lot better huh?

For which is better..they both are great bumpers. THe Outback 1.0 would be easy to add a double shear simple spindle to have setup like how Adam makes his due to the flat back. Just as for the recovery points to be not installed so you have a flat back. Or you could still easily add a regular single shear spindle and keep the rear recovery points..which would be ideal..or adding some recovering points after the swingout..

The Elite is a bit more difficult..it would require some more R&D on spindle placement and type. Mine is built into the bumper during assembly..so you'd have to cut a notch out and add some tubing to it..and make sure it cleared the truck too..so..put it on and off a few times.

As for cost with your buddy..As much as i wish i could help you with that..i can't really  i don't know your friend and how well he is as fabrication work. Or what he charges..so..hard to tell..

But i can say that most DIY projects ALWAYS take longer then you think and usually cost most :p haha But..will you save 500 bucks? I would hope you'd save a few hundred doing it yourself..but again..up to your buddy..

    NOW..that said..dig this..

This guy is selling a CBI swing out..JUST THE SWINGOUT..don't get too excited..haha

    http://www.expeditionportal.com/for...acoma-parts-Nashville-TN?highlight=tire+swing

But i bet you could offere him something decent and he could ship it. Comes with a lot of nice options and you can always add the Jerry can holder later(doesn't come with one). And but a new CBI bumper powdercoated with a spindle and boom..you got yourself a sweet deal.

Now he is asking 500..which is riciculous cause that what its worth brand new..you talk him down..and your saving some money and get a nice kit.

Plus CBI's spindle system is the tits. Works epic.

But again. You could just build your own pretty easy. Id talk more with your friend to get a good idea of how he feels about making one and what he is gonna charge you(friend discount? :notsure:)

I believe so, as long as the OD of the bushing is the same as the ID of the shock eye, and the ID of the bushing is the same as the Diameter of the bolt.
