Tire Pressure Light

My tire pressure light went on and has been on for a few days now.

I double checked my tire pressure in my four tires and everything is within range, I can only assume it's my spare tire at this point. I really don't have the desire right now to drop the spare down so I can check the air/fill it up (the stem is facing the bed of the truck, not the ground).

Am I ok to just reset the light and if it goes back on just ignore it?

 

You can reset it, but I wouldn't ignore that spare too long. You may end up with a flat tire some day only to find out you have two flat tires.

 

If the batteries in one of your TPMS sensors are dead then the light will turn on due to the missing signal from that sensor. Good luck pinning down which tire is to blame if this is the case.

The batteries only last so many years until you have to replace them or the sensors.

I don't have any plans on getting a flat tire anytime soon.

 

I don't think I've ever planned to get a flat either, but shit happens.

 

Why reset it at all. It can be a reminder for you to crawl your lazy ass under there and put air in the spare. Jeez.

Either flip the spare over or get an extension tube so you won't have to expend any energy.

I can appreciate that answer.... In all honesty I've been wanting to drop down the tire anyways for "practice" as I've heard it's not all that easy to do, specially when you're broke down on the side of the road.

I suppose I have to just stop thinking about it and doing it.. ha.

 

YEAH.... if you got an '06 and not had that tire off yet.... you better do it ASAP.... the wheel will be rusted and I doubt you could put it on the truck even if it did have air in it...... Turn it over so you can check from the bottom....


The removal method is CRAP and I'd not want to do that at night.... so MY spare is in the box where it don't get salt, rain, etc all over it (under the Tonneau) and I can check it easy...

Get er done. I think they are mounted outside up so you dont trash the outer side of your tire /rim.

 

My 2013 has been reset by the dealer just 2 weeks ago, and the TPMS is always on. Tire pressures are fine, usually is off for 2-3 days after reset and then it's on all the time after that. Spare is flipped, pressures are all the same. Not sure if this is "normal" or what, but it's annoying.

 

One small 3/4" x 3/4" piece of black electrical tape placed in the right position over your TPMS light works for me... Probably the cheapest DIY you could do....


(Who needs that freakin' TPMS anyway)... it's there for the girls.... Real men don't need that crap.

Yeah,.... OK that trick... still too much work for me... All my working TPMS sensors are in the garage this time of year anyway...Wouldn't work then.


Tape works great.... and if I ever have the dash apart, that light will be removed

 

I'd make myself very annoying to them until it was fixed, assuming it's still a warranty issue for you (I have a year left on my '13)
