    Tor,

I have a question for you. I read up last night on the merits of proper fuel injector cleaning.

As I understand it, it's a 3 step process offered by specialty shops like RC Engineering.

    • Ultra-sonic cleansing bath, in which the injectors are submerged and actuated in a concentrated solvent and subjected to ultra-sonic vibration,
    • Followed by a high-pressure reverse-flow solvent stream, and
    • ending with a media blasting to the injectors’ bodies
and the replacement of all seals, O-rings, and nozzle covers.

The service runs $24 per top fed injector.

According to this article, the cleaning service yields worthy results.

So based on what I learned, my question to you is there merit for non-boosted naturally aspirated Tacoma's to take advantage of RC's service at some mileage or age interval? Like 100K miles, 10 years, etc? Thoughts?

    Thanks in advance.

Of course there is. With age comes the evolution of decreased or improper flow and subsequently a loss of virgin state atomization. Which will reduce power, per related cylinder. Filtration is the only protection method, from fill station to fuel injector. The level of filtration is what will ultimately determine how long your injectors will spray as true as possible.

Side note, Redline Oil's S1 Fuel system cleaner is one of the best on the commercial market for keeping them happy.

My custom filter kit, was adapted from the diesel market. It filters down to 5 microns while still flowing over 300 gph. The 5 microns is what I was after.

For those who haven't done a fuel pump upgrade, have high mileage, and thus have a heavily contaminated fuel filter, there is a strong possibility that their injectors are upwards of 5% off, or more, flow difference in CCM. Hell, even my very expensive injectors were, after sitting in a bag for a year, while waiting for the built engine.

    Is it worth it? Yes.

After effects can include smoother engine idle and over all operation, better atomization equates to better combustion which means better fuel economy, then better atomization also means restored power.

    Thank you.

I'll go back in your thread and look at what you've done with filtration. I've been sort of following along with the sock and pump inside the filter discussion. So much performance tech in here! Love it.

I think I'll service the injectors and fuel pump at 10 years age or so...

Is it really worth it tho? At $24 a piece plus s&h there and back if applicable when for about twice that u could get new ones couldnt u? Seems like since its the same amount of work, it would be easier and maybe a little better just to put new ones in, especially if ur gonna get 10 years out of it

Do me a solid, if you go this route, collect some notes in a thread somewhere...

I'd love to follow a coherent step by step write-up for DIY fuel pump swap. At the very least some guide. I'm also interested in serviceable external fuel filter if possible. I know where this was done on one tacoma build, but details were not available.

Crom, I don't have step by step instructions, but your best bet regarding fuel pumps is to go aftermarket.

    http://urdusa.com/store/Fuel-Upgrad....html?osCsid=91a1adc87bca959264a7ed704856314f

The biggest benefit to replacing the OEM unit, aside from opting for a higher flowing fuel pump, is the filter is a separate body outside of the fuel tank. That way, it's easy peasey to replace the filter as opposed to dropping the fuel tank and attempting to disassemble the OEM all-in-one unit.

Is that on upside down on purpose so we can identify him after rollover?

The write up that comes with the new pump kits from URD are top notch. I should have the instructions laying around with the new pump that just came with my sc kit.

Yup. When I get the funds together I'll make it happen. There's a whole lot of things all starting to show thier age at once, mainly crumbling bushings and I'm getting some strange surges that act a lot like fuel starvation
