Skip plate is useless IMO. Too thin to do anything, just for looks. Scoop also doesnt do anything. Its all for looks. The only one that can decide that is the person buying it.

That being said...I went with the sport. Im taller so the scoop doesnt bother me.

The off road has the rear locker. So if you do go off road, that can be handy. I don't, so I chose to have the hood scoop.
The off road used to have 16" wheels and nicer tires.
The sport has cheesy tires that I got ride of.
The off road doesn't come with double cab long bed. I wanted that also.
Maybe not any more, but the off road came with ugly chrome bumpers unlike the sport that comes with painted bumpers.

Offroad. Unless you want the skewp. Or get an offroad, color match the chrome, swap your hood for a skewp and you have a sport, but with a rear locker.

    Stock for now
I would test drive both along with the suggestions already mentioned above.
There is a different suspension as well.
The sport has a 4 leaf pak while the OR has a 3 leaf.
Each package has a different on road feeling.
The test drive is key imo along with the package differences.
I found it hard to see over the scoop. I am small so maybe with a booster seat it would have been ok lol.
I do like the aesthetics of the Sport but bought an Off Road.

    ^^Like he said.
Sport looks better (IMO) colormatched bumpers, scoop (nice but useless)
Offroad has a locker which is the deal sealer for many, but did have the ugly chrome bumper.

I got the sport, which you can still offroad with, just doesnt have the locker.
It's all owner preference, they all look pretty good.

or you can just get a 4x4.

IMO a lot of stuff to do to get the look of a sport.

Locker is the main difference. I went with the Sport at the time since I liked the look better. I did do some off roading but I never got into anything where the locker was needed so I never regretted my purchase.

I got my Taco 5 months ago and had the same decision to make.
I went with the TRD Sport because of looks, I liked hood scoop, painted bumpers & painted mirrors with signal indicators.
I only wish Toyota would have offered the Locker and Down Hill Assist as an option.
My Taco is really too new for me to do any real Off Roading at this time. So probably wouldn't be using the Locker. So for now, the TRD Sport is perfect.
    I love my ride!!

I bought an off road, but rarely use the locker. Only to make sure it works :D
But I probably don't need it much since the ATRAC works so well.
I wanted a sport for the colormatched items and painted indicator mirrors. Skewp looks cool too, but totally useless.
I really love my OR now that all the chrome is gone. Not a big fan of the longbed either.

Add a locker later if you want, and you'll have a stronger rear axle for if you wheel hard.

    OP ,

    answer one question

Are you looking for an AC , or DC , and if you want a DC , do you want the shortbed or the longbed ?

I must be the only one who likes the chrome bumper. Maybe it's because mine is black. I think it looks awesome.

Don't forget the Off-Road seats! Waterproof and really comfortable
