Elvis to Bad Medicine - July 27th

Will be joining the Hardline Yotas - AZ Facebook group for a late afternoon noon/early evening run.

I would recommend Skid plates, sliders, and min 33" tire for this trail.

Wife and I are interested!
Any objections to an old fat guy and his wife?

I have long bed, AT Off-Road, 2-3" lift, 33" Toyo AT3's and a winch and some straps.
OEM front skid only, no rock sliders, OEM rear bumper. On a trail rated mostly MODERATE and DIFFICULT in two spots?

 

I ask without an of my own research in hopes you may know from doing your own?? Whats the time length for that route? Added a stop or two for pics and BS.. I have a concert to be at in the evening but have wanted to scratch that trial off the list awhile now. Despite the SXS guys, I think it will be a good trail to run.

You and your wife are absolutely welcome to join. I always try to encourage spouse's to come along. My wife will also be along for this trip.

I've have never done this trail or personally know anyone that has done it (only been in AZ for about 3 weeks). From previous experience the Funtreks book seem to be conservative with the ratings. I've also seen stock trucks go places I would have never thought they'd go. There's a few videos on youtube of this trail. Maybe give them a watch and decide if you'd be comfortable doing it.

I also have a winch and recovery gear.... just saying.

Not knowing what traffic will be like, I'd probably lean towards the longer side of the estimated trail time. I would like to get an early start maybe 7-7:30am?

Edit: I remember this trail being pretty difficult. You lose service in the area that is the most difficult and I would say pretty easily this is an all day trail especially accounting for drive time from the start of the trail back down the front then into town.

OMG! I just looked at pics and watched a short video. I think I need rock sliders and skids before I go.

Doesn't look stock friendly to me.

 

I have been on that trail many times. I have not taken my Tacoma though. Last time I was up there was about 5 years ago with a buddy of mine who has a Jeep with 35's, he went around some of the harder obstacles. But others with 35's and 37's had no issues with their jeeps on any of them. I have not been recently but even back then I wouldn't recommend a stock Tacoma.

 

All day trail for sure.
Sliders, skids, 33's highly recommended.. could maybe get through without some of those items, but would need strategic lines, stacked rocks, patience, etc in some areas.
Most obstacles have a Bypass.
The trail changes in some areas due to weather/erosion and property/claim lines.. so hard to know what it's like/trail conditions in some spots if there hasn't been any recent reports.
I would set a cap on the number of trucks.. as the more there are, the longer it will take, and more traffic/pullovers/passing, etc will have to happen.. not to mention.. its just good trail etiquette to not have a massive group.

I’ve been on this trail a half dozen times or so. I wouldn’t take a stock Tacoma on it unless there’s good skid plates. Otherwise, a small lift and some aggressive tires will get you by. All but two obstacles have a bypass and those two that don’t require some good lines for a stock(ish) truck.

If you guys don’t mind a Jeep coming along, I may be able to join.

 

I am not sure I am willing to risk my Daily-Driver (still thinking on it), but as to the "lowly Jeep" dragging along ... there might be places the Jeep can better maneuver to winch out lesser-trained individuals.

Even with RCI steel engine/transmission skid I am a twinge nervous.

 

I'm not against a Jeep joining. And it'd be great to have someone that's done the trail be along. Once you know for sure you're interested I'll add your name to the list.
