Yea, especially with my Flowmaster 40! It just sounds so wonderful it's hard to not want to hit the throttle! Was thinking to see if maybe the reg_thx would give me some more mpg, but i think the higher octane is better for the engine. So ill just wait for gear locks!

When ordering the Software+Cable bundle, is it necessary to buy a OBD dongle as well? I can't find one for sale on their site but I have seen a few for sale in the past here on the forum. Or can I simply hook my laptop up with the cable to the OBD?

And if a different OBD dongle is necessary, can someone point me in the right direction of one that would work? Many thanks.

87 is just fine for the engine. You will get more perf out of higher octane with the tune. Only 2.0 gave me an MPG bump with 92. So, I will run that as it covers the cost difference.

The bundle includes the vF / Tactrix adapter ($349).

So you are saying it's probably best to keep the premium_thx and use the highest octane available to me, 91?

I can't say for sure as different Tacos and drivers will cause different outcomes. Flash up and see what happens over the next 500mi. I flashed a bunch early on to see what I liked best overall.

The 2.0 Tunes are Octane Learning, so there is no worries. Reg and Prem are just the initial set points. The tune adapts just like Stock.

Thank you for the response, finally pulled the trigger. One more question, if you don't mind.

As someone with very little experience, would you suggest simply buying the tune pack and sticking with those?

ohh interesting! I'll try the reg_thx then and see what happens. Going on a road trip this weekend so should be a good test on the difference.

Definitely a good test of a tune.

I was on one recently and the tune shined like a champ.

    You're welcome!

Yes. The TP tunes are the best way to start. Once you feel those out, you can decide on the next steps. I didn't bother with edits for months after it became available.

I will play devil's advocate and suggest another course of action. Peruse the forums for tunes that members are making (PapaRee if you've an auto / Not sure if there is a consensus custom tune for manual's) try those out and then see how you feel before shelling out the $300+ dollars for the tune pack.

I purchased the tune pack. I'm glad I have the tune pack, but that being said I'm running PapaRee's tune and have no plans on going back. I use the tune pack as a reference if I need to make edits.

Where can I find @PapaRee tunes? And are they available for all ecu models(maybe this is a dumb question)?

Hey what are you running for Airload tables? Did you end up going back to 2.0s?
I have been playing with the torque maps A bit I will share after I get one thing figured out that has been bugging me. the rpms drop about 600 now going into 3rd. It is not smooth either you can feel the dip in power. Then comes back up where it should be when accelerating.

Update, still on @PapaRee K3.6 or something (haven't gotten around to flashing 4.0 yet). Cruise control shifted into 6th as soon as I turned it on. Then it stayed there. I'm sure everyone knows how the stock logic likes to go "oh, you've released the accelerator, lemme upshift...OH SHIT I'm losing speed! To 4th we go!". This tune ain't having none of that. Still a thoroughly enjoyable tune. I think I'm seeing a slight MPG gain when I travel to/from/in town. However, my commute is ridiculously small, to the point where I sometimes bike there instead, so I get shit MPGs by travelling slow and hitting a bunch of stop signs, so it makes it difficult to rely on tank MPGs. But even with that, I think the town travel helps offset it and keep better. I'll have a couple more fillups logged in a month or so.

After a tank on 4.0 I have to say this is outstanding. @PapaRee and the rest of the pioneers have earned a worthy reputation with what they’ve developed.

Question about setting up Gear lock in Smode . I have been searching for the posts on how to do it and I cannot find it . anyone have a link to the tables and how to do it ?
Anyway , would it be possible to set it up so gears 1,2 and 3 are normal and then have gear lock in 4th and 5th ? I would like the truck to shift up and down as normal in 1,2 and 3 ,then be able to manually stay in 4th and if needed 5th for towing .In other words , once manually downshifting to 3rd , I could come to a stop and take off again without me having to shift until going to 4th . Thanks .

@Stormpeacock has a video and spreadsheet. If that doesn't have what you want on the last one link is the A/T tune stuff and it is mentioned in there.
