285/75r16 KO2's, Baja XL 80's on CBI ditch brackets, TRD intake, opticoat pro, clear bra running the bottom sides, morimoto LEDs, all white LEDs inside, mounted shovel and axe above wheel well in the bed, linex'd the bed...
Trying to pick a tire size for my stock 2017 TRD pro. Looking at the ko2 but nervous about putting on the 285/75r16 (33"), might be too wide. I've heard 255/85r16 (33") fits no problem on the stock pro but it's obviously quite a bit thinner than the ko2...

The size down on the ko2 is a 31.5" which is smaller than I wanted to go with.

What's everyone running?? Are you happy with it??

I'd be more worried about the transmission. 285's are only 32 1/2. Did you search there are a few other threads about tire size on Pro's.

What would worry you about the transmission?

I've been searching and not finding much. I'll keep looking

Low end torque sucks. So it will dog your truck down like a bitch unless you regear.

    What's it cost to regear?

Pro's have 1" front lift, so anything that fits a non Pro with 1" lift should fit.

The problem is here, 5th and 6th are way to tall of gears, not sure what Toyota was thinking, besides mpgs.

Top speed in 6th with 285's would be 258mph

Doesn't seem worth it over some tires. Would the regear just make it feel stock again?

Talk to @Sixgun CO he regeared to 4.88s I believe because his tires were dogging his truck down so badly and the transmission was shifting like total crap. Remember with bigger heavier tires you are adding more rotational mass, more aggressive tread creates more rolling resistance, etc. It's going to hurt you in more ways than one. Are the "looks" worth it for you?

Yes that ^^^ by more rotational mass it comes down to "un-sprung weight". The un-sprung weight is the mass of the wheels, tires and brakes past the end of the axle shaft. The more un-sprung weight the less performance... it'll slow you down and lessen your MPGs.

So take a close look at "C" rated tires as these are several pounds lighter that E load rating and C is what this truck is made for.

First question is: How much off road wheeling are you going to do.... you want larger tires for a more radical look? or off road capabilities? K02s.. meh.... I don't think they have much of either but they are popular around these parts.

I run Nitto Terra Grappler G2 265/70R17 ... these are great tires ... if you want to wheel off road there are others that folks here will suggest. I'll get the Nitto Ridge Grappler next..

I have 275/70 17s and like it. BFG KO2s. Any bigger might be comical. I think it would probably work without a lift, but that would be tight. I sit about 2 inches higher in the front and back right now but will be down about another inch when the topper, PRINSU rack and trans/trans skids go on.

I do notice the engine has to down shift more to get into the power band, and my speedo is about 3% off. I have a six speed automatic and rarely entered 6th gear so I am not sure putting 4.56 gears would help that much. I would run higher RPMs in each gear, but a lot of people already complain about that and I think the transmission is smart enough to put me in the proper gear for the pull on the engine. Again, it has 6 gears to choose from.

I've never thought about putting larger on, but thought maybe 265/75 17s might have worked.

But how much does it actually slow you down? For someone just casually driving will it really be that noticeable?

So what you're saying is a 55lb 32" tire isn't compromising the ride? It's hard to tell because everyone says it slows you down so much... I totally get if you're critical on the performance, but for everyday casual use how much of an affect does it really have?

    By the way sick truck!

@Sixgun CO what were you experiencing? What size tires are you running? How'd the regear do for you?

I think you could go with 285 on a quad cab but you really stretch the proportions visually. Fibanacci was the great designer of them all and we must follow his proportions.
