Trying to get an idea of what the audiophiles here have done as far as speaker upgrades in their Tacos. I have a 2014 DCSB and I am planning out a major audio upgrade. I am looking for a great sounding speaker setup for all types of music, and while I'm not really on a budget, I would like to get the best bang for my buck so to speak.

Curious what you fine folks have in your trucks and how you feel about them.

Hybrid Audio Clarus components is what most of the members here have, and probably what I would get if I were buying a set right now. Don't worry about the rear speakers...put that money towards a really really good set of front components.

Wow those are pricey! I was kind of wondering about the rear setup as well. My son is an audiophile and he loves jamming out in the back, but I don't think he is quite as particular about the sound as I am. Any opinions on Dynamat vs. FatMat vs. whatever else?

They are expensive, but they should be the only set you need to buy.. ever. For the rear..if no one ever sits back there, then rear speaker upgrades are not needed since the driver can't hear them. If passengers do sit back there, then a top level set of coaxials should do from one of the big 3 or 4 mainstream manufacturers. I have kappas installed in the rear, and today was just screwing around in my garage...they sound very very good in the back seat, but again, I can't hear them at all when I'm driving.

Yeah I had the Kappas in my old Audi and loved them. Are you running a stock headunit? Amplifier?

I have researched the audio section for quite some time but not finding the answers I am looking for unfortunately. Figured this was the next logical step.

That is kind of what I am afraid of. It is a small cavity and doesn't need tons of power to make it sound well. My goal is to find a solid navigation head unit that has a decent amount of low impedance power to push the setup. I don't need a subwoofer (well I think at least lol), and there are just too many options out there! I think I will be taking a ride into Dallas next week to do some serious research.

Kenwood kicks 22 watts per channel, Alpine kicks 18 watts, Pioneer kicks out only 14 watts. Clarion is somewhere in between. Doesn't matter if you get a head unit with touch screen navi, or old school style - they don't give you more power if your spending more on the touch screen head units, which is a shame.

An amp is needed for the front speakers, and the rears can be run off the head unit with blocked bass.

Are you running the Focals off the stock headunit? How did you mount the crossover?

I have an alpine head unit, a JL 360x4 pushing the focals, and a JL 500x1 pushing two JL 8" micro subs. I had everything installed professionally so I didn't mount the crossovers myself. Sounds very good.

I bet that sounds amazing. I will definitely do the work, but I have never done a very complex system outside of basic car installs. Should be interesting.......:D

Yeah I had the upgraded JBL stereo and wasn't happy with it. Got the alpine head unit thinking that would be my only upgrade and installed that myself...it was pretty easy. That made the speakers sound better, but I wasn't really satisfied with my bass so I went to a car audio shop to see my options...ended up dropping a fat wad of cash for a bunch of stuff lol

I am running Hybrid Audio Mirius series front and rear with Pioneer 3500 head unit. I bought the fronts from Mr Marv (excellent vendor here). I later picked up the rears on the forum cheap. I used Raammat around and behind the speakers. Big improvement with it.

Running a Kenwood touch screen HU and going to put in Polk mobile monitor components in the front, 6.5 mobile monitors in the back with a polk 5 channel amp. Probably a polk 10 behind the rear seat in a sealed box.
