What specs do I need to run 35s?

    Hey guys. New to the forum and didn’t know what thread I should post this in. I’ve started throwing a bunch of money into my 2018 Tacoma TRD offroad and am looking for a way to run 35s. On Instagram I see all these guys running the 2.5-3” king shocks lift kit, a high clearance steel front bumper, cab mount chop/relocation kit and they’re able to run 35s. But all the truck accessory stores are telling me (no you need a 6” lift to do that) which I clearly know that these guys don’t have 6” lifts. So what are the exact specs/mods I need to run 35s as well as most the rims I like are only available in 17x9 with a -38 offset. Thanks for any help.

    Just FYI, shock brand doesn’t matter (also Kings aren’t the best no matter what anyone says - each shock type has a purpose, digressive vs progressive vs hybrid is what to look for). It’s lift height, cutting/chopping, gearing and what you are trying to achieve that will help with 35’s

    Skinny 33's are the bees knees IMO.

    No cutting of anything (apart from what gets cut to high HC front bumper) or rubbing of any kind, and I even run mud flaps:

    Bolt them on and cut/hammer everything that is in the way.


    A 6" DB (drop bracket) lift is probably the easiest way to fit them TBH

    I have CMC, viper cut, Toytec Boss up front with SPC UCA's and OME springs in the rear and run 285/75 (<33") on 1.25" spacers and OEM rims and Toytec says "I'm set up for 35's" and would only need to move my castor forward to run a "skinny" 35". Really? Thoughts?

    I don't know but, my<33's are damn close (<1/8") from rubbing at the rear inner fender well. Seems like 35's would be HARD to fit, even with what I have so far. Not to mention the obligatory re-gear to 5:29's.

    However, I would be interested in doing it "IF" it were a straight-forward process, re-gear notwithstanding. After all, I would LOVE to run the Rubicon just once before i croak!I'll be watching this thread, good luck OP!:cheers:

    thanks I’ll check that out. Definitely don’t want skinny’s. I have the money to spend. And I want a nice beefy aggressive look. I want it to be a tank. So gotta do 35s and at least 8.5” wide rims.
