honestly if they could just take the stock ones and make them about 2.5" wider each, I think they would have a hot item, and make the lines a bit sharper

Seeing the third gen section forced me to get a Ford...
i'm thinking since the BWs are 1.75" from the fender, these will be more in the area of 3"

Hi guys and sorry for the slow-no progress but the shop has been both busy and short-staffed. Until now, they've just barely been keeping up with our regular production needs.

We have finally got the show started though. The first set of molds for the short box 2005+ Tacoma flares are being made as we speak. We are planning on having them provide about 2.25 inches of extra tire coverage. Also, we are going to try to keep the styling pretty close to stock, just beefier!

Unfortunately I still can't say how long it will take to work through the whole process, but I will try to keep you posted once we get a bit further.

Good deal! How far behind will the long boxes follow? Keeping the factory style but beefier and maybe sharper lines would be perfect.

Feh. Now that I've installed the Bushwackers, I have some more valuable input, I think.

    See my review at: http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/product-reviews/139904-bushwacker-pocket-flares.html

It's all about tire coverage, baby. Those bushwackers CLAIM 1.75" coverage, but that's how much coverage they add to the stock fender AFTER you've removed the factory flare. So you gain about half an inch from stock. woop-de-doo.

An aftermarket flare should, at minimum, cover a 285 width tire on a -6mm offset rim.

I know we're not talking about fender replacements here. But fit is still an issue, and the flare design should recognize that the reason most folks go to an aftermarket flare is to cover oversize tires. So it should be "skinny" to the wheelwell at the front and back of the wheelwell. Many trucks will have already trimmed plastic and/or a body cab mount chop. So flat, flexible plastic adding minimum depth in this area has the best chance of success.

Finally, Tacomas have all those rectangular and square holes in the fenders for mounting the stock flares. Aftermarket flares should take advantage of 'em using clips to hold them to the fender. And if you do that, you'll have less need for extra reinforcing plastic at the front and back of the wheelwell.

I think it would be cool to have some flat fenders kind of like what the jeeps are doing...
