So, I decided I wanted to go with a magnaflow muffler. I heard a lot of good reviews on them compared to other brands. The thing is I can't decide which size. I dont want cab drone or an annoying rasp, just a bit louder than stock. I also dont feel like spending a crap load of money on a catback system, just want a nice tone. Part numbers, muffler sizes, prices, and what sites you guys ordered from would help a lot too.

I have a 14" magnaflow its perfect for me.
You may want the 18" if you only want it a little louder.

Oh and it was a little over 100 installed if I remember right.

I have the XL3 chambered 18" Magnaflow (#13265) as a posed to the straight through and love it. It is not much louder than stock, just a slightly deeper tone. Absolutely no drone. If anything, it could be more on the louder side of things.

There are quite a few YouTube videos of these mufflers on 4Runners and Tacomas to give you a good idea. From what you described, I'd recommend getting the 18" straight through if you want a decent amount more noticable noise than stock without it being annoying, or the XL3 if you want it to remain even quiter and closer to stock, yet with a slightly deeper tone. You might like the 14", but it is louder than the 18" so keep that in mind.

The 14" is the best muffler I think.

I am pretty sure no matter what size muffler you go with it will give the exact amount of performance... On a side note I do miss my MF muffler a tad bit... It had good response when flooring the gas and it was pretty loud.

i cut my exhaust off about 2.5 feet from the cat. i like the way it sounds at idle and low RPM but after 3500 its very loud and obnoxious. 3.4L V6 99 Tacoma SR5 4x4 [IMG]

Not a big fan of loud exhausts. My friend has 40 series flowmaster in his 4runner and the drone sucks balls. I can literally hear him from a mile off

to me a flowmaster on the 3.4 sounds REALLY ricey in the higher RPMs

    Yeah,

Definitely not a fan of Flowmasters on these trucks. Also heard they choke performance and decrease mpg's...

How much tubing do you have after the muffler?

I have a custom muffler. If you route your exhaust under the frame it sounds awesome!

I got it re-routed over the frame since I do a lot of wheeling over rocks...
