    I feel the larger Tundra would be a bit more difficult to get through the trails :(

    The mileage is similar to the Tacoma.
    I average 12.5-13 in my Tundra and I was getting 14-15 in my Tacoma.

    Yeah but the Tacoma is livable because 15 mpg is what full sized trucks used to get 10 years ago. 12.5 mpg is unacceptable from a truck in 2018, that's burning through a tank of the same size about 15% faster than a 2nd gen Tacoma and 60% faster than a 3rd gen Tacoma. When you can get a new Ford or GM that easily turns out 20 mpg and has more power than a Tundra, the Tundra is a hard sell unless you're looking for what the Tundra brings to the table (It's Toyota, rear window rolls down, kind of running out of advantages lol.) All of the full sized trucks have excellent resale too.

    I'm not knocking on the Tundra, but there's a reason even a Toyota fan will go shopping for other brands if they need a truck bigger than a Tacoma.

    My next will be a half ton, and it probably won’t be a tundra only because of the gas mileage. Other than that I love them but it is just too bad to justify when other half tons are getting 20+.

    Nothing about the Tundra appeals to me. If I needed a full size truck I’d prolly get one, but the Tacoma is right for me.


    I still see T100s on the road. Who is old enough to remember those, LOL

    I'm thinking about it myself. A 3G Tacoma with a stick shift is what I would rather for me....but the Crewmax back seat is better for a family of five.

    Initial cost, operating costs, and size are all strikes against the tundra for me. It also doesn't seem as fun for daily driving to me as a MT Tacoma.

    I'm waiting to see what they do in 2020 with the tundra.

    I'm strongly considering one right now actually.

    My I bought my first Tacoma in 2007, it was my only vehicle, I had a long commute and drove a lot on the weekends. I wanted a truck, and a midsize made sense. Now I still have a similar commute, but drive a little less on the weekends. And more importantly, I have an Impreza I use for that commute, so the truck is a weekend and evening vehicle. I'd like the extra space (both interior and bed), nicer ride, and greater towing capacity of the Tundra. I tow a 16' landscape trailer occasionally with the Tacoma with a subcompact backhoe. Weight is around 4500# or so, well within the Tacoma's 6500# tow rating, but you can really tell it's back there. I wouldn't want to tow anything heavier with a Tacoma.

    Gas mileage has always been a big issue to me, but my current Tacoma is only averaging about 18 mpg these days. Even if the Tundra averagers 14 mpg, at my current usage and gas prices, that's about another $50/month. Not a huge expense in the grand scheme of things. And I read on the Tundra forum where guys are getting 15, 16, some even 17 mpg if it's largely highway. An all highway trip in the Tacoma is getting me about 19-20 max.

    For a half-ton, I personally won't buy a Ford or Chevy. Everyone I know who owns or has owned a Chevy has had nothing but problems with them. And my parents' last several Ford F150s have been a real pain in the ass with some major items failing. I also expect resale on a Tundra will be better.

    I've considered waiting for the next generation of Tundra to see what they do. But I'll probably lean toward the current gen for the same reason I bought a 2015 Tacoma. I don't want one of the first few years of a new generation of vehicle.

    That's crazy. Something must have changed with the 5.7s. Had one of the earlier Sequioas with the 5.7 (AWD with 4.30 gears) and got 17mpg+ in mixed highway and around town for a couple of years. It was just so much bigger than what I needed therefore the Tacoma.

    I have both and enjoy them equally. As far as gas mileage I get 16 with Tundra and 17-18 with the Tacoma. Before the suspension, tire changes on each vehicle 17+ on the Tundra (5.7ltr) and 22 on the Tacoma. I wouldn't own a Ford, Chevy or Dodge. I know too many people that have them and heard their stories.

    I'd love a Crew Cab SR5 4x4 in silver with that 5.7 and a Flowmaster Outlaw exhaust!!!

    But can't afford it and don't want the payments either.

    Tundra too expensive to buy that could haul a 12k load, even used when I looked about 3 years ago. maybe around 15k

    95 F350 XLT CCLB 4x4 turbo diesel with 35s was a better option for me at 6k

    If I was going to buy a full size I’d never buy a Tundra.
    Why?

    Toyotas are too expensive, have poor features and uncompetitive powertrains.


    Because of the price I’ve likely bought my last Toyota. They aren’t worth their price tag.

    I like my Tacoma for a toy but when it comes to real trucks I prefer Ford.

    The Ford trucks bigger than half tons might be alright, I don't know. But of those I know who actually use their F150s, they have a lot of major issues. Admittedly my experiences aren't within the past few years though.

    if I was buying new tundras dont even make the list. they are ridiculously under equipped compared to other half tons. plus a eco boost or 6.2 Silverado would wipe the floor with it and probably still get better mpgs. oh and they are about 95 times nicer inside and out.

    Hopefully they will be releasing a new Tundra that is actually a competitive truck. I doubt they’ll ever touch the domestic brands.
