I actually went the other way. Don’t get me wrong both are great trucks, but I’m happily a TACO magistrate now. First key feature was Tundra got too big for my needs, second is I wanted Jeep like off-road without a Jeep.

I got my Tundra so I could keep the Taco an offroad only rig and tow if necessary. I have yet to get the Taco back on a trail since I bought the Tundra. I have also not towed with it. However, the ride is awesome, the room is fantastic and its the nicest truck out there .

I do agree though that you get more bang for your buck if you look towards other brands.
I went with the Tundra because it was what I wanted for a long time. Fan Boy Club ftw lol.

Yeah, I really like the looks of the Tundra. Beats the look of any other truck out there (except the Raptor).
I think I'll sneak into a Tundra forum and see what they say about Tacomas.

I traded my 2005 Tacoma 4-door 4WD for a 2014 Tundra 4-door 4WD. Kept it one year and traded that for my 2015 Tacoma 4-door 4WD. Couldn't be happier getting back into the Tacoma. Where do I start? Every useful storage cubby on the Tacoma, gone on the Tundra. Not even space behind or under the back seat. Electric jack and both storage compartments in the bed - gone. Windshield angle was horrible for rain distribution. Nothing helped; RainX, nothing. Gas mileage sucked. It was an engine, nothing more.

The weird thing is I live in Canada and it’s not hard at all to find first gen Tundras. It must be a thing only in certain areas.

I could have wrote this verbatim.

Mid Michigan, like Florida is very flat. We can get some decent MPG's with a bit of careful driving.

Because obviously most anybody on this site already considered what vehicle they want and decided accordingly and if they wanted a Tundra they would have gotten one and not be here in the first place. Not rocket science

I had three Tacomas and recently went to the 5.7 CM Limited Tundra because I have 2 kids and a wife. I've put about put about 3500 miles on the Tundra so far commuting to work. Honestly, I think the MPG is nearly as good as my Tacomas but I am 45mi ride mostly freeway and secondary highway to work. The dash has been averaging about 17.4 but done out by hand it has actually been better, north of 18, 18.89 the best so far on a trip to a distant archery shop with a buddy. He made the trip back the next weekend in his Tacoma DCSB all stock with me and we averaged 19.2mpg. City driving does seem to drop the gauge faster. My last Tacoma DCLB averaged just shy of 20 stock. With 285s and regeared to 4.10s it was running about 14-5mpg on same commute.

FWIW I have an 4wd Ecoboost F150 as a work truck. No real complaints but it does not get the mileage the sticker claims. You can get north of 20 out of it if you get on the highway with a full tank of gas and drive 65mph without stopping until its empty. In real world it sees 17ish on average.

Prior to that truck the company gave me a 2014 Ram 1500. The Ram rides the best out of the 3. It had multiple steering issues, broken manifold bolts, and rattles in the time we had it. Real world MPG was also in the 16-17mpg range.

I am happy with the Tundra. It is roomy and has a lot more power than the Tacoma. I did test drive the Silverado before purchasing but I really do not like the feel of the 4cyl deactivation (had the same in my Ram work truck). Even if the Tundra does come in couple MPG shy of the competition that is only a couple thousand dollars in fuel over 100k miles. I will more than make that up in resale and repair costs. Just my 2 cents.

I went Taco for the size and it was just me and my 5 year old. I have since added a GF and her two girls and its cramped when everyone is together (which isnt often). I like the Tundra and considered it but my next truck will be a an F150 for sure.

My father is a die hard Ford guy. All he has ever driven, and every Thanksgiving dinner he likes to roast my Toyotas. I got a couple hand me downs from him when I first started driving and one right after college. Both were F150 trucks. Honestly I had pretty poor experiences with both. The first was the model that would randomly blow spark plugs out of the head. I retired that truck around 150k miles because I did not have the funds to repair the rusted out leaking oil pan and 2 leaking exhaust manifolds and none of the heater controls functioned anymore. The second was the one that you could not remove the spark plugs from the truck. $1200 to repair one plug leaves a pretty bad taste in your mouth when you are right out of college with zero dollars to your name. I vowed never to buy a Ford again. That said I have about 40k on the work truck and nothing major to report. The aluminum is pretty flimsy feeling, it definitely does not have the feel of steel. I'm not sure Id want the liability of a twin turbo V6 either, I would probably go the 5.0 route if it were me. I am an engineer and more moving parts always equals more failure points.

Aluminum has more forgiveness than steel. It feels flimsy because when impacted it's less likely to hold the shape of an impact than steel. I have zero door dings in my 2015 F150 which I cannot say about any of my previous trucks. I'd gladly take Aluminum panels on my Tacoma. After all, the panels are nothing but clothing for the guts.

Hey they build aircraft out of aluminum! Strong enough for a jet strong enough for a truck!
