There is a seller selling some of the winjet lights used on ebay. Is this something that would still be supported, or is it not advised to purchase them?

We have a few authorized retailers that sell on ebay that would be fine purchasing from. Which seller were you looking at?

    Advan_Version
    Carid
    MB Auto
    47-Zone

    Are all authorized sellers.

You should consider replacing the OEM bulbs with LEDs anyway. We have a great discussion with shopping lists over here:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/led-lighting-conversion.436865/page-52#post-16878481

Ok, I updated this post so that you are directed to the list of the lights that @Parker315 has come up with. The guy has been our guinea pig so far. He's tagged in case his list is out of date.

The seller offering several different used lights is wtautopart. I will stick to the authorized guys though. I think I am going to end up purchasing from tacomabeast. I was just curious after seeing several used ones from that seller.

Tacomabeast is a great shop. I've personally ordered a few things from him also.

wtautopart on ebay is not an authorized retailer of ours.

Let me look, I think it was either on the LED thread I just posted a link for or on the "What Have I done to My 3rd Gen" thread. I know it was either done or discussed.

Ok, here is the official thread from the first post.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/tail-light-mod-both-lights-used-as-brake-and-signals.471450/

Apparently there were a lot of issues until they came up with a resolution bumping up to a 9 ohm resistor.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...rake-and-signals.471450/page-19#post-16934459

By the end of this page on the thread it seems they have it figured out.

Oh, here is a post with the wiring diagram:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...brake-and-signals.471450/page-6#post-16361791

Looks like @ToyoDrew was instrumental in all this.

    Hope this helps.

    You're welcome.

Yea, definitely a little over my head but seems simple enough to follow. I get the desire but I think if anyone is concerned about the amount of illumination in a smoked lens then the easier route would be a pack of LED bulbs for 10 bucks. A lot of the real modders would disagree with me and I respect that too.

For me though, if I can buy a better product than I can make myself, 9 times outta 10, I am breaking out the plastic before even trying.

Any chance anyone is working on a winter friendly tail light, LEDs suck when driving in snow, always get covered and can't melt themselfs clear.

Unfortunately, we aren't making or have plans for something more winter friendly. However, tail lights are relatively easy to change out so maybe you can have a winter set (stock) and a non-winter set?

Got my tail lights last night and will install today. I got the clear black, but now I'm wondering if I should have gone with the smoked ones since my truck is black. I was just thinking the lights would be brighter on the clear vs smoked lens

Or maybe you could order the smoked too and then have winter, night and day sets?

Installed my tail lights last night and all done and so far I'm pretty happy with them, however I did run into some snags.

First of all the fitment and install of the housing went easily and they fit perfect, and if you follow the directions step by step from the video you will not have any of the blown fuse or other issues.

Snag #1 was that on the passenger side housing, the section for the reverse light wasn't cut out correctly so the socket for the reverse wouldn't go into the housing at all. I had to enlarge one of the slots a little and once I did that I could get the socket into the housing.
Snag #2 was that on the driver side, for some reason when I turned on the blinker it would blink super fast like it normally would on led bulbs. After messing with with the housing a little, I noticed that the black wire that is connected to the small white clip next to the fan was loose and eventually came unplugged. After resetting that everything worked good and still is this morning.

Outside of those minor snags, everything else went great. As for my review - I would say the only thing for me is that the blinker isn't too bright, but others have also mentioned that already. Brake lights seem to be bright enough and the parking light portion is super bright. So far I like them better than the oem housings.

Cool, great review @ratcityrain! Thanks! Maybe some brighter LEDs would help out?
