    Oh look, another mod....

Why do you need this? When you're driving, you shouldn't be streaming any videos. It's not enough that we have a radio, now we have to have HD/Satellite radio and people want to add VIDEO now!

Your eyes and attention need to be on the road. Our vehicles have too many distractions as it is. There's no need to add to it.

Apple CarPlay increases safety while driving. I don't want to watch videos while I'm driving. I want Apple CarPlay wirelessly.

I want this so I can have my phone mounted elsewhere without needing a cable strewn down my center console.

Have not tried this but my thinking is, it may disrupt OEM wiring.

Reason I say that...recently had Viper Remote Start installed on my wife's 2017 Elantra. After install and within a day, the check engine light came on.

I took it back to the Installer and they put the diagnostic analyzer on it which indicated one of the oxygen sensors caused the check engine light to come on.

Both sensors were replaced (Upstream/Downstream) once I got the part numbers from Hyundai Parts Department (each were over $200), I was able to get the same OEM on Amazon for $85 each.

A couple of days later, the check engine light came on again!

I took it to AutoZone and their diagnostics reader could not locate the fault...the service guy said, I'd probably have to take it to a shop.

Took the car home and disconnected the negative battery cable...which reset the system and the check engine light did not come back on.

Since then, I have a Foxwell Diagnostic Scanner NT301 on order.

Hopefully, the check engine light does not come back on.

I think he is just looking for wireless carplay, which in itself won't do video or anything of the likes. The product he linked however strangely says carplay but then shows netflix, etc, which carplay decidely will NOT display.

    Op, try this one https://www.amazon.com/Carlinkit-Wireless-CarPlay-Adapter-Factory/dp/B08P1GWQDB
I believe this is the one a few around here have and its generally liked, and its a lot cheaper. There are a couple threads with wireless carplay discussions with some good recommendations.

    Heck!

That looks like a great device! (I just watched the video)

Using the USB and Bluetooth to the device.

My only concern, will that interfere with the existing Bluetooth system already in-place?

Com’on dad. He’s just asking a question. He just wants a loving answer. Just give him some love first and then cut him dow if he kills someone while watching the Kardasians while driving.

This is the one I have.

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08FG2MT2D?ie=UTF8

Works great, I have 2 phones - it's less easy to switch between phones from the device, but from the phone it's easy (work phone, personal phone). It takes a second to boot up and connect, but <1 minute. Sometimes - maybe 1 in 50 times - it just won't boot up. You have to either power cycle the head unit (hold down the power button for a few seconds, no big deal) or unplug/replug the USB connectors. Not sure why, sometimes it just has a fit and doesn't want to do its thing. Not a big deal, still worth it in my opinion.

These DRAIN your battery. 20-30 minute commute should be fine, but longer than that and you'll want a power source. You CAN plug a cable into the USB-A port on the other side, and "override" the wireless. I just use the wireless charger, or use the center console - I have a 3 way splitter in there to charge all my goodies (radio, USB power bank, phone, wireless speaker, etc etc) when I go on trips.

Others have run cables for the media port relocation and have it tucked away. Mine just sits in the center stack though.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2020-tacoma-media-port-relocation.648547/

PS - the way this works is to establish a bluetooth connection, then it switches over to wifi. So when I want to switch to my other phone, I have to go into the phone and connect to BT of the device, and then it will switch. Then on next start up it will connect to the last device again. And because of this, if I want to connect to my dashcam via wifi, I have to unplug the carplay adapter

I love it - I get in the truck and my phone stays in my pocket. Takes a second to connect, and I can run music/sat nav as needed. Longer trips like 2+ hours I am liable to plug it in, but leaving my phone and keys in my pocket is a super luxury. Unnecessary and not a burden to not have, but whatever. Also my commute is 8 minutes, so it's nice to just leave it all in my pockets.

I have been using the OttoCast for the past 6 months with no major issues. Only an occasional hang up that a quick reboot of the radio resolves.

    Wow!

I'm reading reviews on the less-expensive devices...maybe go a little more expensive but not the one that's $800+. lol

Looks like it's time to roll the dice and pick the one with the best reviews.

I didn't see any 3rd Gen Tacoma owner reviews...but folks on here have shared what they bought...so, there's that.

I just went this route. It has a $46 coupon right now so its worth the risk.

I might just take you up on this one...buy 2 of them!

One for me and one for my wife's car.

EDIT: I bought 1EA. Coupon did not apply to both of them.

I have this one in my 2022 SR5 and it works great!

    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09QJXQRPB?ie=UTF8&th=1

I used double sided tape to attach it to the side of the bin in front of the shifter, so there's still room for my phone or other stuff.

    IMG_2244.jpg

    IMG_2245.jpg

I also have a wireless charging dock inside the center console, so I can have my phone in the console charging and still have full access to CarPlay.

Some of the reviews aren't great so we would appreciate more descriptive reviews on products used...hint, hint! lol

I don't think Carplay or AndroidAuto use bluetooth at all, or not for the meat of what they do. As I understand it they form a wifi connection between the device and the phone.
