Couldn't get a reply in the A/V forums. Ive went through pages and pages and nothing addressed any of the following questions:

So my buddy gave me a hand-me-down Pioneer AVH-X4700BS DDIN head unit that im thinking about throwing in my truck. Unfortunately, it didn't come with any of the stock wiring, so i need to buy the wiring harness, handsfree mic, and USB extension.

That bullshit aside, i've been weighing out my options for installation. I am satisfied with the door speakers in the JBL system, but the stock subwoofer has got to go. I'm eventually gonna pull the JBL sub and plastics and put in a custom box with two 10" subs and an additional amp. My questions are:

    1) What is the cheapest way to wire this pioneer deck. i am okay with not having steering wheel controls. will [IMG]$41 AXXESS TYTO-01 - Turn-On Interfaces - 01-UP TOYOTA LEXUS AMP INTERFACEhttps://www.amazon.com/AXXESS-TYTO-...e=UTF8&qid=1519108618&sr=8-2&keywords=tyto-01 do the trick? Or do i have to use the $100+ dollar metra adapter?

    2) When one removes the stock subwoofer, but wants to retain the JBL amp for the door speakrs, what is the best way to go about installing the new amp and subs? To run from the head units RCA outputs? or to tap into the JBL amps signals with a LOC?

Your thoughts and suggestions are appreciated.
    Cheers

couldn't tell you about the sub I'm sure you could just run the RCA's. I just hooked up a pioneer nex 1300 in my 2011 w/ jbl and used this https://pac-audio.com/catalog/radio-replacement/rp4-2-ty11 with great results. It was way cheaper through Amazon.com. whats wrong with the stock sub? mines plenty powerful for the size of a tacoma and the music i listen to. also a aftermarket head unit will give little more power to the speakers.

I have owned at least two 10" subs in each vehicle ive owned. My last was vehicle had 1000 watt Type R's. I like loud noises :D

& I've heard some people say that a newer headunit will increase power to the speakers, but because the 4 door speakers are running off the JBL amp anyways, i don't see how a more powerful headunit would increase the power to the speakers. You know what i mean? The power to the speakers is all coming from that external amp in the back anyways.

& finally, i looked at that unit you linked. It's twice the price of the one i was looking at. I'm being frugal here and trying to get the most bang for my buck. Thank you for the link! Ill definitely keep that adapter in mind.

I would go RCAs from the head unit for the sub. Enjoy the fact that you now have them because you are going aftermarket.

Unfortunately trucks with the preinstalled JBL premium sound system are a little more complicated. The JBL amp uses digital signals so it makes installing a sub confusing, plus, you need a special adapter to connect the new headunit to the existing JBL amp. The new headunit will not power the speakers directly unless you rewire to all four doors. Pain in the Ass.

You can't just get rid of the jbl amp and put a $100 4 channel in there and pick up the speaker wires from there? Then it's just RCA for that piece.

Post your JBL stuff for sale in the stuff for sale forum . Some members here would kill for that package .
Re- wiring to the doors is a pain but soooo worth it

I don't know much about the jbl setups but couldn't you just pickup the speaker wires at the amp and not have to rewire the doors? I'm sure it's not high grade wire but unless you are going nuts that shouldn't matter.

i think i read that because the amp uses a digital signal meant for that amp, that it wouldn't work to use the same wires. One would need to rewire from the head unit to the doors to avoid that stock toyota wire harness that connects the digital signal to the amp

It's gotta be copper wire. Same same.

i see what you're saying. yes the wires from the amp to the doors would be fine! i would only need to rewire from the headunit to the amp. Good point. I might just throw in an aftermarket amp too and rip out all the JBL components and sell them. The cost of the stock JBL system would probably pay for new speakers and an aftermarket amp plus some
