I also have 2nd gen CBI sliders, 2nd gen wheels & tires, 2nd gen BudBuilt skids, and previously a 2nd gen hard trifold tonneau... all modified myself and installed in less than 8 months since I bought the truck, so I could put scratches on it off-road. Wasn't going to wait half a year for something to be made.

It'll likely go to the dealer's collision shop (or their usual affiliated shop if they don't have one).

The fenders are expendable. Plenty of people hack them up to fit a snorkel and larger tires. A replacement fender is only $160 on Rock Auto. No need to get emotionally attached to them.

No I did not. All I told the advisor was that I had a 2017 with paint flaking. That was all he needed to hear.

I'm not really crazy about having to respray it, but at this point, it's better than allowing the flaking to continue to spread.

Running my fingers over it causes more pain to flake off right now.

Sooooo . . . . you really have no idea what it's been through. Good advice to check with Toyota, but being O-P-J. (Other-People's-Junk) don't get your hopes up.

That looks pretty bad, even for a white one.

Have a early 2017 TRDOR Access Cab made in Texas in late 2016. So far found no chips or flakes? It has had a couple of wax jobs, 40K miles in CO sun.
Are problems seen more on Mex or TX built or both? Any pattern on which models or plant of manufacture were sent recall notices?
I have had 2 first Gen Tacos in white, no problems seen.
The 2017 frame looks good, has been painted when new with rattle can black, pressure washed underneath.
Thanks for sticking to topic- it helps everyone to follow, read, and contribute.

If anything was low budget it’s the factory paint job lol. Toyota has a long history of paint issues and still does on 2020 Tacoma’s. My Tacoma had to have rust repair due to improper coating/spot welding in the drivers door jam under warranty.

Is there a specific TACOMA issue regarding the white paint (vs other Toyota vehicles)?
I ask because I had a 2011 Sienna Limited AWD in Pearl White and the paint was beautiful the whole time going from extreme heat to below-freezing weather (including massive amounts of horrible road salt) while living in New England...

We saw no issues at all - as mentioned - the paint was beautiful when we sold it after 8 years...

I see the issues with White, and the one example with the blue... are there any 'Safe' colours as deemed by experience in tacomaworld and beyond?? (Those Toyota colours that perform better than average?)

Thanks for the video. However, Toyota needs to do a better job at screening the finished paint as there are a lot of imperfection in the paint.

Wow... I called toyota today, looks like Im out of luck.

They said if they have more people call and receive a case number for this issue they would likely add it to a recall list that includes paint flaking on other models.

    Pretty. damn. bummed.

This is my first toyota, not a great first impression.
