Just a brief recap from the New Member Thread:
In 1996 I bought a new white 96 Tacoma SR5 3.4 ltr..4x4.. I put 274,000 miles of Hard Driving on it. Pulled a 22 ft boat up the grape vine 80 85 mph. Never felt the boat back there and my truck never seen the inside of a service shop except for a head gasket recall.
Used Castrol 5w30 synthetic, changed every 10,000 miles.

Last March 2013 pulled engine replaced rear oil seal.. Problem solved. Last week I go for emission inspection.. No problem.. on the way home CEL popped on. Pulled the plugs and wouldn’t ya know it. Blown head gasket between 1 and 3 cylinders. #1 155 #3: 120 … all others 175 and #6 was 178.

Thought I’d drop in and go through my engine replacement entertainment.. process.. with yall..

I have searched the web for couple weeks and can find nothing about YotaShop engine rebuilds… So I’m thinking this might just be a good place to start..

Here I’ getting ready to pull the engine

Looking at the engine I’m pulling out

Engine on floor with new rear main oil seal and new valve cover gaskets..I had installed a couple months ago... go figure..

With valve covers and front gear off ready to move over to new rebuild when i get it... Some time next week..

    (A) shows where gasket gave way between #1 and #3 cylinder. (B) shows some aluminum deposits on cylinder wall. With all that water it got hot quick.

So I ordered a long block from YotaShop. Located in Washington State. I will keep posted my experience with YotaShop, their customer service and the quality of work.. So far their knowledge is top notch...

    Yall wish me luck…

Simply changing the gasket wasn't an option?

Hey x2468  That was my original plan. Ordered the head gaskets and made arrangements to have my heads reworked.
Then pulled the engine. Saw # 3 cylinder was scarred too much. Now my options was to send my block in for complete bore crank pistons and all the rest.. then put it back together my self…
    OR
Just buy a long block already rebuilt. Save myself a lot of work.. At my age that’s a plus..
Now I have a new set of head gaskets. I will be keeping my original motor…

On 19 June 2013 I received an email around 1400 hh from YotaShop confirming motor was shipped along with a tracking number. I was told the tracking number would not register until latter that afternoon. Around 1700hh on 19 June I used the tracking number….

    YotaShopShipment_zps9d8ce4cc_184c4a977bb1503771645be104f4d9e4f77cec5a.jpg

The photo above was the information that tracking number gave me. I realize YotaShop has no control over shipments after leaving their dock.
However I believe YotaShop rates a 5 Star for selecting and utilizing a heavy freight carrier that is on par with FedX and UPS when it comes to fast online tracking of orders and shipping conformations.

Matter of fact, with FedX and UPS I usually have to wait the fallowing day for delivery conformation. With YotaShop’s carrier Central Transport, I was given the delivery schedule the same day within a couple hours…

So look for some photos of delivery on 25 June 2013 or reasons for delay….:)

Good write up so far OP! Looks like you have a new heart ready to get beating back in that Toyota! I am curious, did you pay for the core in order to keep your old block, or will you be expected to crate up the old block and return it? Most engine sellers require a core return, or a core charge. I am curious since I have never dealt with Yotashop before.

I believe the 91 V6 has a 3.0 in it. If this is your daily driver I would replace it with the same engine.
Less issues with retrofit and all that good stuff..

    Give YotaShop a call at (360) 263 – 6750 or Email Michael at michael@nwteamyota.com
    The 5VZ may work ??
They should be able to help you……

It cost me $300 to keep my block. That’s one of the reasons I kept it.
It cost $220 to ship back. So you could say it actually cost me $80 to keep it.
I could have used the same crate it came in...for the return shipping..

After all said I spent an extra $300 because I did not live in his area….

This is my first adventure with YotaShop also..
If the engine runs as good as she looks and feels she should scream..:)

I will post the results after 1500 miles.. including compression readings.
    This block is 20 over..
