    Hi All -

This is my first post... Just wanted to share my latest project.

I've been searching high and low for a way to mount fishing rod holders using the truck rail system. After seeing all of the T-bolts / custom nuts on the internet, I decided to head to the hardware store and make my own. I thing the total cost for everything was less than $20.

The best way that I found to mount things using the rail system is to epoxy a 1" washer to a bolt. For my needs, I used 4 of these for a 7-pole rack and use wing nuts for easy installation and removal from the bed. I pull off the rail's end caps and slide the bolts w/washers into the rail.

I used a 2X4 to mount PVC pipes and secured them with bolts and pipe straps. I used a Dremel to cut out notches in a few pipes for spinning reels. The rest of the holders are for conventional reels which is what I use most. I put bolts in the bottom to secure the gimbal butts of the rods.

I mounted a 2X4 on my garage wall with the same hole pattern as the rack so I can store my rods in the garage the same way.

It's pretty sturdy. The larger rod/reels are probably close to 7-10 pounds.

    Here are some pics.

Thanks, Ziggynagy. I'm always looking for new ideas. The Rotopax are nice, but a little pricey for what you get. I think using the 1" washer and any size bolt really opens up the possibilities for mounting things to the rails.
