Just be careful popping the plastic dome covers off. They break easily, especially when putting them back on. Make sure the pegs and grooves line back up on the front ones by the windshield.

Youtubed, How do you change the spark plugs on a Toyota tacoma? There is a video with what looks like a Toyota tech showing you how to do it. The is about 15 minutes long. The first time I did it it took me about an hour to get the tools out and clean up after. It's pretty easy to do.

Not heavy duty, but very useful. I found these keychains at Home Depot for about a buck fifty. I simply backed out one of the window screws and ran it through the webbing giving me a ring and a carabiner on each side. I hang a rod between the two for hanging clothes, too which has been nice for the occasional dry cleaning run. Cheap and functional.

 

Anyone know how to remove the two silver panels on the side of my radio? I scratched on and want to paint it but all the videos I see only show up to the removal of the radio and touch screen. Figured if someone knows it would belong in the mods / tutorial section thanks!

Wanted a secure way to mount my shovel in the bed of the truck so that it didn't walk off. Bought some #2 conduit hangers, some t slot nuts, and a couple of 3/8" bolts to make two clamps for the shovel. I then hooked the shovel into the hangers and user a linchpin and a MasterLock to secure it.

Remove radio, remove ac and hazard clock etc. Then you pull out surround it's held with clips.
Doesn't hurt to remove the gauge surround also.

 

The 2012s show the relay in a different position/location..

Is this JUST for 2012, or for 2012+?

Exactly which t-slot nuts did you use? I know there's a few different ones that work better than others lol

A cheap mod that I did was plasti dip certain pieces of my pickup it is simple and pretty fast it took me about 4 hours to do this

 

Well can give pics as my truck is being repaired but I made a cheap bed or backup light out of led spike light. Here is a link for them http://www.homedepot.com/p/Commercial-Electric-Plastic-LED-Spike-Light-K40037/205432310. It works for the Sport or Offroad like mine spike fits into the rail tie downs and just wrap the cord on the same and plug into your 120 volt outlet. Easy to remove or swivel as a spotlight and turns on by your outlet switch inside.

 

anybody know how to mod the fresh/circulate air into any mode anytime mode? my 1st gen is anytime but my 2nd gens default to fresh air when in windshield defrost w feet and windshield only. i want to keep the circulate mode when on these two settings.

I thought I'd do a quick write up on the toolbox I modded today. I have an extended cab Tacoma, but this is especially handy if you have a double cab because of the limited bed space.
I have no use for, not do I want to clutter my bed with a full-size tool box. I had a bed side box in the garage so I grabbed the sawzall and went to work. This is the kind of box I started with...
These boxes are the perfect width for a 1st gen tacoma but the base of the box is too wide to sit down in the bed of the truck.
This is where the sawzall comes in, you can also use a hack saw if needed.
First,Put the toolbox in position for install, mark where the cuts need to be made to allow the box to sit down into the bed. (I hadn't planned on doing a write up or I would have taken pictures of these steps.)
Now, using a speed square, extend your marks to meet the shelf in the toolbox. (This will make sense when you have the toolbox in front of you.)
Mark the box all the way around where you will make your cuts.
This is the best shot I have to show the cut I made.
I notched the piece that was removed so that it would slide into the void lieft by the cut. Then riveted this piece in place. It will create a side wall for the toolbox. This step can be skipped, you will simply see the truck bed through the inside of the toolbox when it is open. The cut out piece is shown here riveted in place. (Circled in green)
Now it's time for paint. I used some rustoleum from autozone. One coat of black primer and one coat of gloss black.

Next, I put some moulding from the parts store on the cut edge to clean it up.
With the box almost finished, I drilled some holes for a fire extinguisher.Then riveted in place.
And installed..And there you go, the finished box..On a previous box I built, I also attached some straps to the left of the extinguisher for some jumper cables and attached a folding shovel on the right side. D-rings are also a good idea as you will lose the use of the front tie down points when this box is installed.
I used a couple self tapping screws and attached it to the bed for a snug, noise free fit.
My son seems pretty excited about the new addition.

Hope that someone finds this useful! I sure like mine, and its really all I need to haul my necessary tools.
