Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
Not normal. She was dry! Keep an eye on it.

Thanks for the heads up. Must be from wheeling! It's weird it was so dry though since there's only 20k miles on it.

Oozing out of the zerk connection? that makes you didn't get it on well enough.

Decided to mess with it some more and got it. A lot of the fittings on the gun were loose and causing grease to leak out, so I tightened them up and tried again. Was able to get the old black grease out and replaced with the nice new red grease. Took quite a few pumps!

I just bought a grease gun and did this. Are there any more than the 5 on the driveshafts?

If anyone else decides to use a harbor freight grease gun, don't do what the manual says and remove the rubber plunger if you're using a tube of grease. Against my will, I followed the directions and made a big mess and wasted more grease than I used. Now I know for next time.

Did mine today. Felt pretty good about myself as I worked from back to front. Then I got to the front two :annoyed:

Gonna try to find a slimmer fitting for next time.

I used Valvoline synthetic grease on my last oil change. Grease probably greases good but it separated and made a huge mess leaking out of the gun. Fortunately I was able to grease the joints without incident other than my arms getting coated in oil.

Does the Mobil 1 grease separate?

Same experience here with Amsoil synthetic grease though, if I hold the grease gun just right, I can avoid the mess.

Also curious what, if any, synthetic grease doesn't separate like this...?

Curious why you wish you had them. I was relieved when I found out I didn't have them. Less maintenance. Then again I am not very mechanically inclined, maybe you like having more control over these kinds of things yourself?

My drive shaft started lurching a bit between 15-25 MPH when I would feather the throttle or let off. Went under and greased them and again its much smoother now. Seems to be about every 10K miles this is required for me. I'm going to switch from Lucas Oil Red n Tacky NO. 2 to the Valvoline Lithium NO. 2 conventional grease next application or the Valvoline synthetic version.

I would suggest spraying all your splines with gluidecoat http://www.amazon.com/Bostik-GlideCote-formerly-TopCote-10-75/dp/B008F87IYK

    Driveshaft parts http://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/sho...=1998&ukey_category=21645&ukey_driveLine=6725

I am going off topic a little here but the concern has been raised that many trucks are being delivered to you guys without a single drop of grease in your new driveline , low oil in the differentials and low oil in the transfer case and last but not least , under torqued u-bolts holding your rear axle stable .
The factory grease in your universal joints is only an assembly lube . Your driveline needs to be lubricated at every oil change . Make sure they greased your driveline when they sold you the truck . There will be traces of fresh grease on the universal joints
Read what Spicer has to say about greasing your driveline . I am certain that Spicer still has the Toyota contract . They make all your driveshafts

Here is a write up to help you https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/greasing-entire-drive-shaft-u-joints-5-zerks-total.56976/
If you cant see any grease zerks , you've got polypropylene universal joints . They are designed for 50,000 trouble free miles according to the seminars I have trained at .Here is a new write up with some 2016 trucks involved
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/check-your-u-joints.409042/page-2#post-11509086
If you do not own a grease gun , go buy one because you are going to need it
If you have a two piece driveshaft , reports are coming in there is a lack of lubricant on the splines of the slip and stub . Your truck will clunk when downshifting into first gear when cold . Takes a special lubricant
    This stuff will work http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/ptfe...-ford-motorcraft-xg-8-ml1167-31508-42027.html
And this stuff is said to be the best but pricey http://paceperformance.com/i-782162...bricant-high-temperature-c1-2-w-a-t-1-lb.html

I know this is an old post, but I went from Mobil 1 grease to Valvoline Synpower. Mobil 1 separates way too much when being stored. Valvoline Synpower does not.

    http://www.valvoline.com/our-products/grease-gear-oil/synpower-synthetic-grease
    I buy it from Amazon

I switched over to Mobil-1 synthetic grease and, yes, it separates out in storage in the grease gun. I clean out my drain pan after every oil change and store the grease gun there. I put a layer of shop towels in the pan to absorb the leaking grease. It leaks off a liquid that is pretty much like transmission oil.

So I was Home Depot and saw this set up , any good for greasing my shit ? Opinions ?

    IMG_5665.jpg

    A flexible extension ?
    IMG_5666.jpg

    Replacement lube
    IMG_5667.jpg

It's a "mini" grease gun , but will it work ? Is it decent ? And is that the type grease I want ?

I don't need a fancy snap on or mac grease gun , I just want something to crawl under and get the job done . Is this brand shit ?

    Thanks for your input

Yes I do. The pump holds 3 oz. tubes - the smaller version. I have a grease gun that holds 3 oz. tubes and I prefer it. Easier to handle when you're crawling around underneath a vehicle.
