Hey guys, been searching for something on this to no avail. I recently ordered a redline goods shift boot to replace the worn out fake leather one that came on the truck. Im wondering how to remove the old shift boot in the five speed trucks. Ive removed one in a six speed fj and the wire around the bottom of the boot just popped out of several clips along the outside. Does anyone know if the 5spds are similar or if you have to take the actual shifting console apart to get the old shift boot off?

If anyone has a thread that i may have missed or knows a little more about this, any help would be appreciated.

I tried pulling inwards on the shift boot like you would to remove one in the 6spd and it doesnt want to pop apart. Makes me wonder if theres something else holding it on or if you just have to get on it. I figured id try to research a little more before i get after it and break something, but was unable to find a thread specifically for this

Heres the closest thing ive found. Hopefully itll help someone else down the road if there arent more responses. This is the install manual for the urd short shifter but it gives the best instructions ive been able to find regarding the shift boot removal

For future reference. Heres how it connects into the console underneath the shift boot.

    And the finished product
