As exspensive are the new Tacomas, Toyota engineers figured after monthly truck payment, one would be too poor to have any change.

 

I normally used the ash tray for change. the 2017 does not have an ashtray. Guess I will have to use the center console.

 

Gen 2s have a nifty little compartment with a small door on the left dash that was perfect for a pile of change. In the Gen3 that just replaced my 2012 there is a small open shelf. Not as nice, but a small leather change purse fits it ok. On the right in Gen2 is an open shelf just right for a wallet, toll tickets or whatever when travelling. I miss all the little Gen2 storage spots, the eyeglass holders, bed side open compartments just right for a coiled light rope etc, that are missing in Gen3.
Adapting, and overall still prefer the new rig.

 

I hope they steal it today! its as bad as the 2016 i am not happy

 

Anyone know of a long security box to replace that storage area under the rear seats in a double cab? Looking for something that might be able to securely lock a hunting rifle.

Driveline hump in the middle seems a little problematic for long guns though...

Thanks to FtApache for a detailed Rear Bumper Removal Guide

Tools:
-12mm socket
-Philip head screwdriver
-Flat head screwdriver

Time commitment: Between 15-25mins for removal and 10-20mins for install = 25-40mins total

Step 1: Remove license plate

Step 2: (2a) Depress the tabs for the trailer plug and license plate lights and pop them out of their sockets. (2b) Disconnect wiring harnesses for the trailer socket and license plate lights located behind the bumper. (2c) Remove the three push pins pushpins shown below


Step 3: Two snap clips are visibe and can be easily seen from beneath. Hint-it's located towards the end of the bumper. Pick a side and gently start prying the snap clips using a long flat head screwdriver (or other prying device) to free them from their sockets. Patience is key here. Start slow and take your time. You do not want to rush or apply too much pressure (just enough to free the snap clips). Too much pressure will break the snap clips

Step 4: Remove the six 12mm bolts shown below. Start with the upper bolts. Then remove the two bottom bolts


Step 5: If you do not have sonar sensors, the rear bumper end caps should now be free. If you have the senors, carefully remove them

Step 6: Remove the push pins and gator clamps shown below


Step 7: The outer end caps should now be removed easily

Reverse the steps above when reassembling. Remember to take your time. Do not rush doing this. Replacement endcaps are expensive. So take your time while doing this.

Now it is out of the way and out of sight.



When purchasing the cable be sure to get the one pointing down. Also, when wrapping the Velcro around the cable end be sure to overlap the Velcro. The first one came off after just sticking a piece of Velcro on one side of the cable end.

Totally agree with you RE: accident waiting to happen.... I went the other way and got the "Mini USB" and it does not stick out like that one...
Your solution is also a good one...I did not that option was available, as I live in the bush of Northern Canada... hehe

 

Good point! And probably a better choice for most. Much cleaner and the lower port isn't blocked. I just wanted to use the USB drive I had. I just can't get used to those Mini Drives. I had two that I ended up misplacing. In this case I probably won't misplace it being it would be left in the port at all times. If I wasn't so cheap I might get one of those Mini Drives.

 

Anyone ever try the Softopper Front Range Bed Rack? I was looking at buying the regular Softopper collapsible canvas cap, but I like this design also. With this set-up, I could bungee a tarp or sunscreen across the bars to provide weather/sun protection for my dog in his kennel beneath the rack. It would also allow me to carry more gear in (above) the bed of the truck. Seems like a pretty slick design.

If it's any help I bought a Toyota ashtray cup that fits into my console cup holders near the charging center. I'd have to dig up a part number for you but I think it's for the new Camry. It definitely works for spare change and my key ring while I'm driving.
