I’m thinking about an “transparent hood” project sort of like Rover’s where my headunit screen could be easily temporarily switched to a forward looking video cam as an aid for off-roading around rocks and cresting hills, etc., because you know how fun it is to take the leap of faith when you cant see what is in front of you in those situations.

What mods have you you used for this? Does anyone have experience with the Beats Sonic Harness to do it? What model works with a 2017 Entune unit?
    Any others?

    Thanks!

I used the kit from anytime backup camera and a DPDT toggle switch to select front camera, normal, rear camera. If you're pulling the etune unit apart anyway, it's a good time to also install the navigation override switch. Anytime backup recently has an add-on to do that as well (I just cut and wired in a switch to pin 17). Something to consider.

Anyone have any insight how i can hook up a switch for my front camera using the VIMTY-05? I've done the diode for the rear anytime switch, but not sure how to do that for the front using this harness (holding the steering controls and navigating through the screen is supid.)

What pins are the video signals on that kit? Looks like a great option! Least expensive, too, because I can put a multi-channel switcher on it and get a split view of front and rear too (thinking of view behind trailer) :)

I don't know for sure, but here's a bunch of threads I bookmarked when researching this mod. The info lives in these threads. with the kit, I didn't much have to think about it, but I like knowing what I was plugging in where and what it did.

Just note... the anytime backup camera kit doesn't have a camera. I bought the iNewcow one from Amazon that fits in the toyota logo on the grill.

I'm ignorant on the subject, but what's the function of a navigation override for? To replace the normal navi display/position with that of a live camera feed? (I am just guessing here)

Navi overide lets you press in coordinates and other stuff while driving, otherwise those functions are locked while the truck is moving.
The other switch just flips to camera view as if you are going into reverse and the camera display switches on.

Do you know if this override allows us to read text messages on our entune when driving too?

Yeah, it does on mine too- I use that mode occasionally, but reading them on the screen while driving? No, thanks.

I don't like having to lean over to see the entune system. I would rather just hold my phone or leave it on its dash mount.

There are several things in the head unit that get shut off while driving. I installed the switch primarily to allow a passenger to use these options while we are driving.

An example is the fuel app that finds nearby gas stations will only show page one while driving (I believe), so break that circuit and you can navigate to more results.. Other apps like yelp are probably the same way.. Also, I have a Google home and my daughter pranks me by putting goofy stations on Pandora .. Which then show up on my trucks Pandora (Dora the explorer station is the latest). With the nav override I can quickly delete the station and take back control of my life (ha).

Maybe instead of navigation Override it should be called motion chicanery.
