What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

I used 12 gauge on mine. Will be plenty thick since it’s a short run down to the engine bay. I just wrapped it in electrical tape and shoved it in the gap.

Im deff gunna look into making a platform like that with storage boxes underneath. Mainly just for the same purpose as yours. For the pup. I wanna keep the back seats intact just in case though.

Unfortunatly I don’t have the same rear seats as yours. I have an 08 access cab so my rear seats look like this.
However maybe that will make it easier because they do swing forward to already make a somewhat flat platform but idk if I trust my 100lbs dog to be supported by those plastic bars that go over the top.

So I deff wanna make a plywood 60/40 floor that’s carpeted to cover the seats and storage and make a flat cargo space in the back. It’ll just be a slight variation from what I see on the newer trucks with the different seats.

I will prob have to try and source thinner or be more crafty with the storage bins having that plastic bar over the top of the seat. Or maybe I can remove that entirely and rest the seat on the cases instead. I’ll have to look closer at it. My seats look like this opened up

 

I have the same back seat as you. Flipped them over, and put a sheet of plywood on top. Only additional supports is a 2x4 at each front corner. My dog is 86 lbs and never once has it crossed my mind there’d be an issue.

 

Thanks for sharing that! That’s like exactly what I’m trying to do. The only difference is I wanna have the plywood floor as two piece. 60/40 so that way it can be picked up and moved over to get to storage bins or to maybe flip one of the seats up and use them if need be.

Did you keep the plastic bars that run over the top of the seat and do the 2x4 for support or did you remove the bar and use just the 2x4?

As for the space underneath the seats. Do you think a storage case would fit under there and double for a little extra support and a little extra storage at the same time. Or do you think any storage solution that would fit under there would be so small and oddly shaped it would be practically useless?

Do you notice any restriction in the front seat adjustment with the plywood there? Still able to tilt back and relax and adjust the seat for different drivers etc?

 

I got the letter. Threw it to the side. It’s 12 years from date of purchase, so I’ve got some time.

I set the seats where I wanted and built around that. I can still recline all the way back but I can’t slide back any further, which is fine. I have some loose stuff stored under there, but not a container. I also can store stuff under the seats as well. I have some MRE’s, some recovery gear, tree savers, soft shackles, etc. Some soft sided bags would be good if you’re trying to keep small loose things. I left the bars on the seats.

if you want to store more and never use the seats, I’d just remove the flip down part entirely. That’d give a lot more room under them. That’s on my list, just hasn’t been a priority

Tore into my transmission this week. I am pretty sure I blew up 3rd gear and the clutch that controls reverse and 4lo. I am doing a full flush with pan drop and filter change in hopes it’s just the cooked fluid.

But it’s Christmas so I’ve got to wait until later to bring it up to temp so I can check fluid level and then take another test drive.

I probably need to do that in the spring. New tranny fluid and drop the pan.

 

I only raised them about 2 full turns from where I got them from the factory. I'm right around 2.5" of lift

 

I would really like to keep the functionality of the seats should I ever decide/need to carry a passenger in the back id like it to be useable. That’s why I was planning the 60/40 split for the platform. It would be easy to pick one side up and put it over to the other side so the seat is useable for a passenger, or for access to the the little built in storage compartments.

Iv also been looking at the possibility of keeping the seats folding over the factory storage compartments and finding storage bins that are tall enough to be level with the top of the seat. Then build the platform over that.

Edit: I also plan to do a head unit and a small 10” sub that gots the amp built into the box and what not. It’s a thin little sub box and only a 10” but it really is all you need in our small cabs. It kicks pretty good. So I might think about incorporating that laying flat on one side and then the pelican case idea on the other side and then build the platform over that. I can make something to support over the subwoofer side if needed.

That’ll keep the sub tucked away and still full use of the platform. As well as a case for storage. Then if I build the platform with the 60/40 or 50/50 whatever it works out to. I can move one side over and take the case out and put it in the bed or wherever. Then carry another passenger and still have the sub. And it’ll be tucked away safe from and damage of throwing things in the back seat with the sub.

I’m leaning towards this option the most. I can always pull the sub out and put a storage bin over there just like the other side and have the sub on top of platform or where ever. The setup has a lot of flexibility and purpose in one. I like.

 

Mounted and setup with my pages.. ultragauge mount sucks dick, had to get creative but I actually like where it is alot and easy peasy to run the cable.

And these temps normal for cold start up and idling for a little?

 

Merry Christmas everybody! I scored myself two method NV wheels! I think they are heavier than what I currently run, which sucks but oh well. Going to powdercoat the bead look bolts white.

 

I used 10 gauge I have a long enough piece laying around worked out perfect
I think my previous wires were 14 gauge which came with the old light bar
I think it’s better to get the cables with the lights
I didn’t on this one because mine was already all ran and I though it would be the same

 

Some minor Christmas add ons. Added “the gashole” from Meso customs, and made the Tacoma Attic from Blue Ridge fit my ‘12 (designed for ‘13 and after). Merry Christmas everyone!

 

Removed rear bumpstop spacers, adjusted some options on my alarm from the laptop, tweaked the headlights a bit and most importantly, washed and waxed.

Man I keep seeing your truck on here and I gotta say I’m jealous. That’s a beauty right there. Is that the original paint? Very clean and simple build, but just right man. Everything complements each other and works together nicely. If I was you I’d pat yourself on the back. That is a nice truck you have a lot of reason to be proud of it. I wish I lived in a nice climate and could have a truck that clean.

 

Who makes this gauge? Does it just plug into obd and read from computer? I like it and wanna get one for my truck. I have an 08. Does it only work on the newer ones?
