Yep reverse is horse shit. I always have to put it in 4lo to back up the camper or trailer. i tried reversing uphill once with our tiny camper 1000 pounds, and smoked the clutch now it's always in 4lo when reversing

If you're in a situation requiring reverse... You're probably faced with an incline, needing to roll over an obstacle, or in sticky mud... Low end torque and traction is key... Experienced off roaders don't go unnecessarily fast on reverse. Easy way to loose control or break something. Toyota did the exact opposite of compensation for the lack of low end power... They gave us a tall gear that gets us no where down low

Reverse should never be a tall gear.

Lol this guy, Frank! It's almost too much, I can't take it  wonder if Toyota is paying him to tout the kool-aid or if he's just that drunk off it. Either way, at least I learned how to home anodize stuff before he got banned, the one useful thing Mr BadJokey brought to TW. I'm thankful for that, but good riddance otherwise. Kinda foolish to come on a forum focused around appreciating, improving upon, and teaching others to improve upon their truck and spout a bunch of ignorance about how it came off the factory line perfect

Hey man, didn't you do a thread on suspension upgrades? Track/sway bar? ooh I gotta find that one if you did. Cool shit you've done to your truck!

Thanks man, and yeah I started a rear suspension tuning thread but it flopped big time lol. Like the OP is the only p kind of flop  but I tried. And yeah I ended up deleting all sway bars and the trac bar. Sway bars didn't help that much after getting coilovers and better leaf packs, and the trac bar was a relatively ill-conceived modification. It was trying to limit sway, flex, and longitudinal movement of the axle all at once and would eat right through the bushings with my driving style. I'm looking into making a set of trac bars instead which I'm thinking I would mount to the frame rails rather than the much smaller frame cross bar.

Will do! Here's a link to my very recently updated rear suspension thread. Thanks for reminding me about it, I had forgotten to post pics of parts used and after the install so it's my fault the thread went on life support for a while :fistbump:https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/third-gen-rear-suspension-tuning-thread.555310/

I have thought seriously about it. My personal opinion reverse is way to fast. It’s very hard to control guiding trailers into parking spots. These are trucks period. The function of a truck is to haul and tow anybody that thinks it is otherwise is sadly mistaken. The reverse gear in these trucks IS too high to be able to guide trailers

Do you have a manual or auto? I've had the best luck personally slipping the clutch just a bit until everything is moving slowly and then just idling back into the spot but I'm with you that reverse is way too tall as delivered. 5.29s also solve that problem a different way and help with towing a lot

Manual trans. No complaints other than that really. Our little camper is like 14’ total length it’s just tough backing it in places if you have to go like 20 mph so I just flip it into 4lo.
