noob question about 4wd and 2wd lifting

why do 3" lift kits look different on 2wd than they do on a 4x4?

is it because the 4x4 is already higher when its stock?

 

6 lug 4wd Tacomas are higher than 5 lug 2 wheel drive Tacomas. All prerunner and 4wd Tacomas are 6 lug.

There are a couple 5 lugs around here that look as high and higher than stock 4x4s. ill look for them and post some links... one sec...

i really like the look of neslerrah's truck. do the shocks make any difference in ride height or is it mainly the readylift kit? and the tires

 

My 5lugger is as high as stock Prerunner. I have fat Bob's lift kit & 31's on my truck. Harrelsen's truck is probably little taller than mine since he has 33's on his.

what kinda milage do you get with it lifted? i want mine the hight of a stock 4x4 but i like getting 25mpg..

 

I have lead foot and 31's so I guesstimate about 20mpg or so. I bet the mileage suffers by few mpg, but it all depends on your driving habits...

 

yours does look pretty good. have you thought of painting your stock rims? i would like to see what that would look like on your truck.

and my lift kit would cost more since i would need to take it some place to get it installed

 

i was quoted i think 250 or so for front and back here in virgnia so im not gonna get that done, i found a guy here that said he would help so if you do end up getting it lifted im sure someone on here would be willing to help if you ask!

Nope. The best you can do with 5lugger is to lift it & put 31's on it, which would make the 5lugger the same height as stock 6lug 4x4 or Prerunner. You can go little higher by putting on 33's, however you will need custom bumper or cut the hell out of your stock bumper to make the 33's fit.

However lifted 5lugger with 31's & Powertrax No-slip locker will be pretty capable off road I took my 5lugger off roading right after i got the lift with the stock 215/70/15 Dunlops and it did pretty good, exceeded my expectations...

 

The lift CAN be installed in your driveway with basic hand tools, don't be scared to turn a wrench, make sure you have 18" cheater pipe at least to loosen some of the bolts and you are golden. Make sure to get alignment afterwards.

I am not painting the stockers. The stocker wont be on the truck long, eventually they will be replaced by 15x8 Cragar soft 8's in flat black.

Stock gears. Going higher gears will only hurt your mpg.

Stock rims are 15x6. Get lift first. With stock ride height you can't fit 31's...
