I'm not sure what you mean....the TPMS in the spare is a different sensor than the one in your other 4? Or they are set @ different pressures?

The reason I ask is mine has not come on at all since I put the new rims/tires on and they don't have TPMS in them. I really have never cared for this kind of TPMS. It's always more of a PITA than a great feature.

It is a big big PITA I agree.

So I assume your sensors are still hanging out in your old wheels and tires, in your garage?

If so, when you turn the truck on this morning, it sees the sensors and says everything is fine. The system only queries the sensors occasionally. Eventually the light will come on and annoy the hell out of you, trust me....

If it bothers you too much, I'm sure your new rims are TPMS compatible if they were manufactured in the last 2-3 years.

I think they're different pressures, I've been toying around, trying to even them out, but to no avail. The tires on the ground are 225's and the spare is a 265. Don't know if this makes a difference. The light was on when I bought the truck, so I'm trying to track down the reason why.

There have been folks who have found their light doesn't blink until they are 50 miles away or so from the sensors. I don't see how that's physically possible, but you are not the first person to report this.

Is the light constantly on, or is it blinking?

You have 225's?! Smallest size I've ever seen on a Prerunner is 245.

^^Thanks for the warning KPT, I won't be using them. Sux, because they're all over Metroplex and an authorized Procomp dealer. Maybe a smaller off-road shop will be better. I'll keep looking.

If anyone has had a good experience with a shop in Metroplex, please let me know.

They actually own ProComp, which is why they always push their products.

Damn! I'm assuming the TPMS utilize a sort of prox reader system which would not require the units to have battery power. Like a prox card reader, when the card comes within range of the reader, the reader itself is what powers the card to send it's signal. TollTags use the same technology, but on a larger scale to scan from 100 feet away. I'm guessing the TPMS is a similar prox system. However, for the truck to have a reader that can scan 50 miles away would be possible, but it would cause cancer in anyone with prolonged exposure to it.

I'm going out of town tomorrow, guess we'll see if it starts when I get far enough away.

I do believe they are battery powered.

Light is on constant since I've owned it. 225's...I know LOL. I need to over-compensate with 6" lift and 35's to get my man-card back!!

Well since the light isn't blinking, the system is working and none of the sensors are broken, so that's good. The most common problem is that the spare is low on pressure. air it up and the light should go off.

I take it you don't much offroading? A drop-bracket lift is not a good choice if you do. If it's just for looks then go for it.

Really? I guess that's good. You'd think more people would have to replace batteries.

Or are they battery powered, but charge from being driven? Like a Seiko Kinetic.
