Sub in 1st gen

Hey guys,

I've been wanting to put a new stereo with aux & a sub in my 1st gen for some time now.

I'm picturing the sub living on the floor in my backseat, I want to have it easily removable in case I have passengers in the back...

Can anyone recommend brands/sizes, etc that I should look into?

Any other things to consider are welcome, thanks!

I have a Sound Ordnance B-8PT powered subwoofer. Install was easy, it fits nicely UNDER the driver's seat, and sounds great. For $160, including an install kit and shipping, it's hard to beat and I never have to remove it to use the rear seats.

 

i have two kenwood 12's in the back of mine and you dont really want them easy to take out because odds are someone will want to take them from you.. your best bet to keep your passenger room and your sound quality would be to put shallow mount subs from kicker underneath your seats and the amp other one of the other seats

I am now debating on whether to go with the supercrewsound.com box + 2 8 inches behind the seat or the Sound Ordnance under the seat.

Is there any advantage/disadvantage of either setup? Price def seems higher going with behind the seats, but would love input. Thanks!

 

The sound box is probably the "better" option, as far as quality sound output and real sub sound goes. It may end up slightly pricier, since you'd have to buy the box + 2 subs, but in the long run I think it is probably the better option.

From what I understand the Sound Ordnance gets a lot of mixed reviews. Some people love the hell out of it, and for others it falls short. Consensus seems to be that it is pretty good for the size and price. For the price, if you are just looking to round out your speaker system sound, and get a little more oomph to your system, it would be a nice option.

Otherwise, in the end the two subs will probably provide the best sound, but for a little higher price if you are buying all your subs brand new, etc. Just depends on what you are looking for.

 

Yeah, looks like 2 subs + box will be around 300 bucks, then I have to amp it right? That's another 100-200?

The Sound Ordnance I can get for 143 open box, would I have to purchase an amp for that also?

 

I'm newer to the sound system realm so I couldn't really give you a good estimate on cost but from what I have seen if you buy some good stuff brand new that sounds in the ballpark.

The Sound Ordnance comes with everything required for a sub. Built in amp included. Just wire it up and it is ready to rock.

From what I just looked up a great sound system can cost more than 1000, hopefully someone else can chime in on further cost estimates?

 

The "better" option really depends on your budget and your goals. For me, the Sound Ordnance B-8PT Powered Sub was/is the better option. While reviews qualify as "mixed" in the strictest sense of the word, they are overwhelmingly positive, both here in the forums and at Crutchfield where, as of tonight 280 people give it ~4.5 out of 5 stars.

Do you have an iPod? If so your best bet would be to get something with a USB input I have a Kenwood KDCX395 and can't speak highly enough of it. It has all of the major features needed to design a good stereo setup for ~130 from crutchfield.com which includes all the necessary hardware needed to install it in your truck for free. It also has an AUX input if you wanted it.

Can you run two of the under seat subs? One under each seat?

I'm not sure about that. Recommend asking the folks at Crutchfield.

I don't have one of mine, but I can tell you it fits under the seat like it was made to go there. (We've got inclement weather moving in, but I can try to snap a couple of pics when it's more "hospitable" outside.) In the meantime, there are pictures of one in a '04 DC here and an '03 DC here.
