    I thought a lot of guys interested in painting their grills would also like to paint their door handles. The prep,painting, and supplies are the same as those for the grill. The only difference is that I used a couple of more coats of paint because the handles are slightly textured (even after sanding)and I wanted them smooth. You may even have enough paint left over to do your handles for free.

    Try to paint in one direction, either up and down or side to side. The most important thing is to watch the overspray. Paint around the edges first and then work top to bottom. If you paint the face first, when you paint the edges you'll get overspray on the face and cause shadows. This is especially important when you are spraying the clear coat.

    That looks amazing! I want to do this to my black 2012 with the same process.

    Chris, how has your held up after almost 2 years? We probably would've heard something if it started to chip or peel. I might paint mine today.

    One more question! What kind of bolts are holding the grill and outer grill piece in? I thought I read that they were hex bolts. What size are they? I need to buy a bit while I'm at the parts store.

    I think the '12 grills are a little different in their mounting, etc....

    I painted my emblem today after taking the plastidip off of it. I cleaned it up, sprayed with adhesion promoter, primer,paint, and then clear. It turned out great! I think I may tackle my grill after church tomorrow.

    I am finishing my satoshi grill and am painting clear on it now. My problem is that it is not getting glossy or shiny at all! I put on 5 coats of paint and I've done 4 coats of clear, and no gloss whatsoever. Any ideas? Should I just put on a few more coats then buff it out in a week or so?

    It will gloss up if you wet sand with 2000 grit and then use a polishing compound on it. Make sure you keep your sand paper wet and don't sand all of the clear off and you should be fine.

    Sorry about my absence here guys i have been busy and not fooling with the truck recently. I am still pleased with my paint it has held up well with many automatic car wash passes as well as hand washes. No bug chips or flaking/peeling. I used a light sand paper, adhesion promoter, a few coats of primer, and 3-4 coats of duplicolor rattle can color match toyota black sand mica or whatever paint and has held up trmendously. Accept for the scratch on the right side from my girlfriends automatic arm at he apartment complex shutting on the front of my truck FOR THE SECOND TIME with of course no help from the apartment complex!

    I have a 2012 dbl cab TRD offroad that is MGM alsoand I want to get rid of the chrone grill too. I found Duplicolor Magnetic Gray Mica paint but not Metalic. Did you use the Magnetic Gray Mica? Is it the same thing.

    Yep, looks factory and not a single rock chip. It's doesn't have quite the mirror finish of the hood, but neither do most of the factory sport grills I've seen

    I picked up some Krylon fusion and Duplicolor Superwhite.

    Would I still need an adhesion promoter with the Fusion?
