Hey Schauncho!
Nice Rig man!! I just picked mine up yesterday and its the same truck only 4x4 instead of PreRunner and a shortbed.. I'm in a very similar place now as to Mods to come..
I've already ordered a set of weathertech mats & window deflectors as well as an OEM Bed-mat and am eagerly awaiting their arrival..
It looks like we've got some similar mods to come in the future:
I'm interested in a 3" lift as well as some new wheels/tires (Nittos) w/in the next couple years..
I'm too scared to do the BHLM at this point so I may just do some eyelids for him instead..
I'm going to get the windows tinted within a week or so and wanted to do some debadging and plasti-dip of the emblems as well.. I have absolutely NO experience when it comes to removing any badges or plasti-dipping, however I saw that you seemed to do yours with the emblems still on the truck? Should I take this mod on myself or would you recommend me just having the local detail shop take care of that at the same time they tint the windows and Clear Bra??
As far as the OEM skid plate, does it seem sufficient for light off-roading (no giant boulders) and going through the woods for camping and such?? I live in Colorado, so certainly some heavy terrain here, however I'm also leery to put anything too unnecessarily heavy on the rig.. Lol awsome man! Arent these trucks the shit?! I kinda wish i got the 4x4 but im sure that would have given me the confidence to be a jackass on trails and i'd end up fucking the truck up! Yeah im scared to do the black headlight mod too but im gonna do it soon anyway... Possibly next weekend... Maybe this weekend if im feeling adventurous enough. As far as the OEM skid, i cant speak from personal experience but ive heard itll only protect from minor damage. As far as the plasti dipping of emblems, taking them off and reapplying is super easy and there is a great write up on it on here. Im on my phone now but when im at a computer ill post the link. But as you mentioned, you can paint them with plastidip on the truck. The overspray just peels right off as long as you spray enough on there. The thinner the coat, the longer it'll take to peel off because it tends to tear as you're peeling. The plasti dip certainly has a texture and isnt as shiny as if you used real paint. There is also a great write up on painting them for real to get a super nice shine on them. It requires a lot more work though.

There's one I'm looking for but can't find that's SUPER detailed, awesome pics and he goes the full 9...sanding, painting, sanding, clear coat, sanding, more clear coat...etc...my preferred method(if I wasn't lazy). If I find it I'll add it but the others are still good.

Soooooo...I finally got my windows tinted. Looks great. I'll post pics soon. looks so much better IMO. the murdered look is coming along. if this rain ever lets up maybe i'll find time to paint my wheels soon.

 

possibly new tires soon...still waiting to hear back from a guy about that. If so I'll post pics of that and the tinting soon.

 

Beautiful Truck.... I have his twin brother in the 6M, love it! 1 thing I did was work a quality lift into the purchase price. I went with an Old Man Emu lift, new coils and shocks in front, new leafs and shocks in the rear. I had a rev tells lift in my 2010 taco... But this lift is solid, love it!

 

NICE! Yeah, I was gonna go with the toytec lift just because it's adjustable because I wasn't sure how much lift I wanted in the front. but all these people are loving the OME stuff and it's way cheaper than the toytec so I might be going that route as well. You get the Dakars in the rear? resi or non-resi shocks?

 

Getting Duratracs installed tomorrow...then taking it to Jawbone this weekend. Can't wait! I'll post before/after pics and possibly a review of the tires soon.

 

SHAZAM!!! Got the 265/70/17 Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac's. So far, first impression...wow these are GRIPPY! pretty big difference in road feel. just feels planted. and don't they look gorgeous?!

 

So I took Marty out to Jawbone in Mojave this weekend. HUGE difference from the last time I was out there on the stock highway tires (as to be expected). The soft stuff wasn't too deep with hard pack only about 3-6 inches away so it wasn't the most difficult test but it was still nice to get out there and see how the new tires perform. I don't have much experience with other all terrain tires but these still have far exceeded my wildest expectations. With traction control disabled I was able to break the tires loose pretty easily but still wasn't wildly out of control. it was easy to get moving from a dead stop in thick sand even with a slightly heavy foot. going up hills with lots of loose sand on top of hard pack and I didn't slip and slide very much. I expected to have a lot more trouble with some of the inclines I attempted without 4wd but I got up them with ease. All in all, best purchase for my truck thus far.

Nice truck! I have the same truck but a 4x4. I recently got rid of my white 06 trd off road and picked up the 13 tacoma sport. Love the truck. Just kinda looking to see what mods are being done to give me some ideas. Keep it up.... Truck looks good!

 

Thanks man! I wish I got the 4x4 but it seems as though for the type of wheeling I'm doing I probably don't need it. There are tons of mods for these things since internally there's not a lot of differences between the variations of the '05+ models. Have fun with your new truck!

 

idk if you got rims yet but look into bronze. my old roomate had bronze rims on his and it looked nasty.

 

Yeah, I've seen a couple with the bronze wheels and I was thinking about it for a little. Still undecided on what to do with the wheels. right now I'm leaning towards painting them black with some red accents...we'll see what happens.

 

that should look sick.. im gonna be plasti-dipping my valence tomorrow along with my recieiver.. that or im gonna sand it down and repaint it. what looks better painting or plasti-dip?

 

It depends on two things; the look youre going for and how much effort you want to put into it. Paint gives you more look options (high gloss, semi, satin, etc) but as you know requires more prep. Plastidip requires very little prep (mostly just masking off what you don't want painted) and only has one look to it which is a matte black/dark gray color to it. Some say the plastidip will fade in the sun after a while which paint won't do nearly as quickly. I've only recently used plastidip for the first time so don't have personal experience with its long term results. For my situation, plastidip gave my emblems a different look than the body paint and it makes them stand out and I like that.
