Confirmation the TRD OR is not prewired for turn signal mirrors?

So I've been kicking around either getting the OEM mirrors that come in the TRD Sport with the turn signals or those flippy tow mirrors with the turn signals.

But I've seen at least one person claim that the TRD Off Road model is *not* prewired for the signals.

Can anyone else confirm this? I'll give up on my dream if it's true :(

I installed the ProEFX Tow mirrors from LKQ, which have a turn signal built in, onto my 2013 TRD OR. The turn signals worked with no extra wiring or modifications, they were plug and play.

I think I remember reading in other threads how the prerunners have wiring that works for the mirrors but the 4x4's don't.

Would be good to hear from somebody with a 4x4 Off Road.

I should have clarified, where I read it said it was as of 2014 it was no longer prewired. My bad. I've got a 2014. Although your post does give me hope, maybe it is still there.

I would look but I don't know exactly what to look for, I wouldn't know if I'm missing a wire or not as I don't know what's supposed to be there, lol. Also, when I switched to tow mirrors in my previous Tundra, I broke some plastic pieces off the stock mirrors. I'd have to do that to my Tacoma and not be able to put them back just to look for a wire. Perhaps someone more talented than I can take a look. :p But as mentioned above, I've got a 2014 so I'd love confirmation from someone with a 2014 4x4 TRD OR.

I have a 2012 TRD Off Road. Decided to try to replace side mirrors with one that had turn signals. Bought TYC 5290532 & 5290531. These are a 5 pin connector with 5 wires. I popped open the door and saw that the truck DOES have 5 wires to the connector so I thought I was in luck. After plugging it in to test it I can confirm it DOES NOT work. Not sure why as it appears to be prewired for it but alas it did not. Might be the brand but not sure why that would matter. If anyone else knows a brand that is confirmed to work let me know. Hope that helps. Thanks!

I think earlier models were not pre-wired. My 2015 TRD-OR (4x4) was pre-wired. Plug and play for me

It's a 5 minute job to pull the door panel and check the wiring before you go all in.

Did you check the voltage to the connectors? Could be a problem with the signal mirrors.

If you have 5 wires there I'm 99.9999% sure you should have turn signal power. The problem lies elsewhere.

Where would I begin to check the voltage? Does it have something to do with a fuse. I found the fuse for the mirrors and everything appears to be in order. Also, after plugging them in I did confirm the power adjustment was working, but not the signal. Any help is appreciated as I'd really like to install them.

I would start by connecting a test light at the 5-pin connector in the door, grounded to the door. Activate the turn signal and look for a flash on one of the circuits. I don't have a wiring diagram so I can't tell you which one it should be, but trial and error will get you there. If you don't get any flash on any wire, then check fuses. I'm pretty all the signal lamps are on the same fuse (maybe 2 for left/right).

You can also connect +12V on the mirror side with a jumper wire and verify that the light within the mirror is functioning. It could be something as simple as the mirrors came without bulbs installed.

That thread has a lot of good info on it. Your 2015 might be wired a bit different than my 2012 but looks like the prevailing wisdom is that the wiring harness in the cab might not be wired for turn signals. Maybe they updated your 2015 to have both harness' properly wired but the guy with a 2013 is having the same issue as me. I'm not too keen on trying to splice and change any wires myself. I might look at it again to confirm but it appears I might be SOL.

Confirmed...not prewired. But as one who added 4runner heated mirrors with puddle/turn signals... Running new wire is not that hard. You should give it a try

How do you run a new wire?

I ran 6 new wires (bundled) through the door panel a pair for each: heated mirrors, puddle lamps, turn signals... 22 ga wire and i ran them alongside the existing wires from the door to under the dash. Not too hard to do. Tied the puddle lamps wires into the ones I ran to the cargo lights (following the oem write up)

All trim levels are made on the same starting line and then either recieve certain options or they don’t.

All vehicles are wired for all options available between all the trims.

It would be too expensive to wire all trims but the TRD OR for mirrors.

    They are there.

    How about nope?

Some TRD O/R, certainly 2012 Access Cab TRD O/R (Baja in my case) does not have the wiring in the cabin. Others reported the same.

Links to thread? I have been considering installing the Sport mirrors on my 2012 TRD-Offroad Access cab.

So based on what I have read, the 2012-2014 TRD OR is NOT wired for Signals. Bummer.

Ah well, didn't want to spend that money anyways!
