time between oil changes

    On my 2011 V6, the past few years I haven't been putting many miles on. So the 5K miles oil change spec doesn't really apply. The local dealer usually offers "The Works" for $29. Oil and filter change, tyre rotation, top fluids, multi point inspection. Probably Valvoline 5/30. A fairly good deal. How long past 6 months would you guys go before changing the oil if the mileage change is between 2500 and 3000? Sticking with dino oil. TIA

    I also go strictly by the book and change at 5000 or 6 months. I went through the dealer supplied 5 oil changes with 12,000 miles on the clock.

    I do my own oil changes every 3K. It's relaxing for me. It's my money and I'll spend it as I wish. I don't want the new kid at the dealer messing up my truck.

    Got mine done at dealer yesterday, they did oil and filter, lubed my shift (giggity) put in a fog bulb, rotated my tires and let me test drive a bright yellow Scion BRZ or whatever the fuck it's called. Best 42$ I spent that day.

    For the time/gas wasted along with potential oil change related screwups we've read here on TW, it's always more cost effective and faster to DIY.
    I don't need a dealer to lube my shaft, I'll do that myself.

    Snow, 20 degrees out, one car garage now and no room to maneuver. Probably could have went to Midas or somewhere for cheaper but have had bad experience with them and stiffy lube stripping/cross threading plugs.. not putting filler cap back on.. spinning tires on my camaro in parking lot. Still check before pulling out of parking lot.

    Get yourself a Fumoto valve and swap it for the drain plug. Makes oil-change life much easier!

    Actually, there have been quite a few threads on oil change intervals. You and the FNG should try the search feature. If you can't figure out how to do it, ask any 15 year old.

    I use Mobil 1 and still change it every 5k. Probably a little overkill but I can change it myself for $35 with oil and OEM filter. Also allows me time to get under the truck and check for any issuses, grease the zerks, and clean the undercarriage. I refuse to let the dealer touch my truck unless it's something I can't fix.
