Replace the frame, really? Corrosion recall question.

    Hey guys,
Sorry, I know there are other threads on this, but I'm not finding a conclusive answer to my question and my situation. My 05 Tacoma is part of the frame corrosion recall (CRC campaign). I took it to the dealer yesterday. They called me and said that my frame had significant rust and that they had to replace the entire frame (it will take 2 months to get the parts and the job will take 3-4 days). Huge expensive job. I know it won't cost me anything, but I know that whenever you do a complete tear down of a vehicle, lot's of other little things get messed up along the way...so I'm hesitate to move ahead since I don't want the headaches that may come afterward. My dad told me that Toyota used to just offer owners in this situation a super sweet deal on a new truck and then they would scrap the old one. That offer has not been made to me at this point.

Anyway, do any of you have facts, thoughts, advice on this one? Thanks.

Your dad is referring to the 'warranty' on the 1st gen trucks. The older trucks (95-2000) were given $$ towards them if they failed. The newer trucks 2001-2004 (I believe) got frame replacements (if they failed)

This is a totally different situation with totally different warranty/recall. No buy backs ..... just undercoating or frame replacements.

LOTS AND LOTS of information on this.

Thanks. That helps. You are right, there is a lot on this site about the corrosion treatments, but I'm not finding a ton of info from folks about frame replacement. What have you heard? Do most people go ahead and have it done if the dealer offers it? Any problems with having it done? Full body off restorations usually come with additional headaches if not done right. Thanks for taking time to reply.

Why wouldn't you get the frame replaced for free rather than have the vehicle worth nothing when the frame rots out from under it ?

Exactly. You also will get all new brake/fuel lines, new control arms, new leaf springs, it will be like a new truck afterwards. Except it will still look exactly as it did before. My brother in law had his done before they started the whole frame replacement/coating service campaign and he has had zero issues since and it's been about 2 years.

I'm in the exact same situation as Jmettx. I brought my 2005 TRD, 102,000 miles in to have the oil changed etc and they told me that I had a hole in my frame and that it will need to be replaced! What the????

They said it would be done at no charge, but now I'm reading that if they cause peripheral damage to other parts, I would be responsible for those parts. And they aren't cheap. I'm a little more than concerned. Truck runs/looks great otherwise...and it's PAID FOR!
