Started up my 2007 Tacoma awhile ago and it seems the idle has dropped and it even chugged a bit. Any ideas? I know I could google but I'd rather hear from my truck people. Thank ya'll very much :D

Could be many things, need more info. Has it been sitting or just happened? Have you kept up on maintenance? Any check engine lights?

A weak battery and a gummed up throttle can cause this.

Maintenance history, spark plugs, throttle clean, last battery test all are a good baseline starting point.

If the battery has been disconnected, it has to ‘re-learn’ how to idle…

Ok so its ran fine up until today-Full tank of gas, A/C running 3/4 flow-drove in stop n go traffic roughly 40 minutes. Made a pit stop-came back out and started her up and the chugging began again. Drove, and it stopped. Made another pit stop (drive thru) and it started again after sitting awhile. No check engine lights come on. Had an oil change in Feb. I recall the A/C was on the last time it happened but it chugged after I cut it off in the drive thru. Then I drove a bit and it stopped again and I made it to my office. I googled and an ECU reset came up. Thoughts??

Start with the simple things. Spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter. Don't buy the random cheap parts on sale. Get quality parts from Toyota dealer (unfortunately expensive) or use Denso or Ngk for plugs. Fuel filter get from Toyota or Napa version in the gold or platinum line. They are made by Wix which is a quality manufacturer. Also consider cleaning the Maf sensor. You can get the spray cleaner for less than $10. Pull the Maf element out, spray it front and back, a couple times letting it air dry each interval. Reinstall. Go from there.

I was thinking the fuel filter as well. Plugs are old. Air filter is less than a year old. I'll google MAF thank you so much :)

Fuel filter is part of the fuel pump assembly in these trucks, internal to the gas tank, and is not considered serviceable. They're one of those "lifetime" parts.

They're a bit of a production to change out, so best to try other things first, especially when they're things that should be done regularly anyway.

If battery terminals/spark plugs/cleaning the throttle body and MAF/checking your air intake box for acorns/squirrel nests doesn't do it for you, consider getting or borrowing an ODBII reader that can give you live data. Your fuel trims will be an indication that you might have a clogged fuel filter.

If you have the V6, these will do you:

Nice catch on the fuel filter for this year. They are inline and easily serviced on the previous generation.
