That is probably good. Big thing is you don’t want the shock to swing past vertical during cycling as that will cause it to bind. That looks about the same angle as how mine are set

Lets talk Brakes. I Let my significant other drive the truck last week, she stipulated that the truck needs to be better at stopping before it has any business going faster. I've done all the maintinance, plus upgrades to powerstop pads, slotted rotors, and stainless lines (all good stuff). Aside from upgrading the master cylinder like some have on here, I was curious what your brake solutions are? I've been considering the SOS performance big brake kit for 16" wheels, but I'm waiting for it to be on sale.

 

Wilwood makes a 6 piston set that's cheaper than SOS for 2nd gens. I just don't know about the VSQ5V%)$@_^# system all 2nd auto guys almost get killed by and if it's affected by that - I think it doesn't until you swap out the MC if you are able to.

 

Upgrading to 4runner front brakes is a popular option, but that requires 17" wheels.

 

I've got all the OEM stuff waiting to go on my 1st gen.

 

EBC pads are a good step up for more bite and better high-temperature performance. But you need to replace the ABS and probably master cylinder to get rid of the squishy 2nd gen brakes.

What did you guys do to fix the vsc stuff on the 2nd gens? Can’t even do a light turn off road without it beeping at me and locking the rear. It also screws with my abs, and it will lock up on stuff like freeway on ramps with sharp turns. Sounds awful when it kicks in like something is breaking haha. Can’t even barely use the lt rn because of it.

My 2011 has a VSC off switch, so that hasn't been an issue so far. I haven't had trouble with the ABS yet, but if it's anything like my old 2006, I'll just pull the ABS fuse. I'll check out the wilwoods.

Yep, I'm 16" wheels.

Yeah, I'll have to look into the MC upgrade again, I forget why I decided against it. I've already got upgraded pads and rotors.

 

When I go that route I'll just roll my own big brake kit, add disks to the rear, and live without ABS.

Or I'll quite fucking around with a toyota frame, ECU, etc and build something from scratch. So probably never...

I almost went with these but I would have had to had a custom mounting bracket made for first gens and Wilwood wasn’t feeling like doing it in-house. Something about not too many guys putting $1600 front brakes on a $5000 vehicle or something like that.

 

I wonder what the options are for race brakes on the Miata. probably still need a custom adapter, but people race the shit out of those things, and they use a small wheel too.

 

I had the same problems as you, I put in a switch that kills abs (and all vsc systems as a result).
I use it when going through canyons and offroad.

Miatas run ultralites and everyone and their brother makes a mounting kit.

 

4-runner brakes in the front and the sos performance rear disc brake kit, which is also 4-runner brakes, along with good pads and rotors like stoptech or DBA (<--best oem fit brakes available rn) is very good. And the tire options for 17in wheels is much better and cheaper so that size jump isn't a big deal if you sell the 16s cause it pays for itself after like 2-3 sets of tires if you make it that far. Either way no abs + good pedal control will make for shorter stopping distances than relying on the abs system these trucks came with

 

You can also kill ABS/VSC by interrupting a wheel speed sensor, I put a relay in line with passenger front sensor, using the pins that are closed and a switch that powers the relay to open and break the connection.
