Really wanted ST Maxx, but since the where on national back order I went with BFG KO2. Details in later post.

Wheels: Konig Six Shooter from Dustin at FN Wheels, 17"x8"x0mm mocked up here on a cardboard box in front of the stock wheel (that cap needs a TRD logo)

    Mod Eight:
    Pelfreybilt Al front bumper.

    Mod Nine, ish:
Heated Mirrors: Trial Toys has some mirrors that eliminate blind spots which is desperately needed.

Lost track of mods, don't really keep up with Tacoma World anymore, too many post whores making snide comments I don't care to read.

    Future Mods:

Roof Rack installed today, about 2 hours. Spent a bit of time figuring out how to bend the brackets to avoid gaps, still not 100% but I think if you bend both ends of both brackets forward 1/4-1/2" you should be pretty close to having no gaps. I'm happy with the way mine turned out, but wish I'd had an extra set of those yellow clips so I could have refined it.

OTT, OME, Dakar, Eaton rear locker, camper shell, Konig Six Shooters and 33" Wildpeak tires, Pelfreybilt front bumper and skids
OME lift completed. Dakar, LR, 887.
Before/after left front: 20/22.5, After measurement on right front: 22 7/8", 1/4" spacer added above the left front strut brought both sides level, just shy of 3"
Before/after left rear: 22/24.5 initial after couple days of driving, down to 24 after a couple of months (both sides, right might be slightly higher).

    Lessons learned:
    * Remove the front sway bar while installing the front struts
    * Leave rear u-bolts loose on both sides while installing the rear springs.
    * Dakar rear springs may come with +, O, or - stenciled on them: put the - on the passenger side if you get a - and an O, put the O on the passenger side if you get a + and a O, if both are marked the same don't worry about it.
    * Mith: LR UCAs don't come greased, you need to pop the boot off and put some grease in it before installing them. If you forgot too: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/greasing-ball-joints-w-o-grease-zerks-light-racing-etc.374403/ (Edit: read the post, this isn't necessary)

Time: front 4 hours with my 15 year old son and I working, mostly just me on the first side, then him on the second (damn I'm getting old).
Rear: 3-4 hours with my son doing most of the work.

No obvious vibrations, if I really concentrate, maybe a slight extra vibe in the steering wheel but that may be the bushings in the LR arms. Pavement driving seems improved, less suspension movement but still smooth. Short rough dirt road indicates the sharp bumps are a little sharper, but didn't seem annoying. I do think the ride would improve with a little added weight front and rear so spring rates are obviously a little greater than stock. Current tire wear indicates I need to increase the pressure so those sharp bumps may get a little more annoying.

Tires are a wee bit small looking but I'm gonna use them up before I get new ones, and maybe wheels too.

    Overlanding shopping list:
    For the truck:
    • 6-ply tires - absolute minimum
    • Two inflated spare tires (I think this is overkill, I'll stick with one matching full size)

Air pump (have a small Viar but want to upgrade to a dual ARB)
Places to attach recovery strap with shackles, front and rear.
    Consumables:
    • Plenty of fuel (Jerry can, etc)
    • Abundant drinking water (at least 5 gallons extra)
    • Food for at least two days

    Tools:
    Shovel and pick
    • Rock bar (really?)
    • High-lift jack - at least 48 inches (requires sliders and new bumpers)
    Wheel chocks
    • Heavy-duty nylon recovery strap (3”wide x 20’ long - no hooks) (snatch strap)
10’ chain with hooks (old school pull, I'll put it in the truck)
    • Tool kit (duh)
    Work gloves
    Good maps of the area
    • GPS with extra batteries (Thinking tablet so I can see it)
    • First aid kit (need one that will fit behind the seat)
    4-way lug wrench

    plus sliders and armor

FYI, most of this is just nice to have. JUST GO!

Mod 7 complete. FN Wheels Konig Six Shooter wheels an BFG KO2 LT275/70/17 LR E tires.

No noticeable affect on braking. Acceleration rate is definitely reduced, which though was expected is disheartening. Truck doesn't seem to go back into overdrive after a hill. Fuel mileage down about 3mpg, was 18-19 and now 15-16. :(

First impression, the KO2s seems to wallow, for lack of a better term, which may be due only to the increased sidewall height. It was unsettling at first coming from the stock Dunlops, but as I drive it I seem to learn that it's not so bad as it felt on the first corner when I didn't expect any movement of that sort from a stiff sidewall tire. Update, I no longer notice this, so I've gotten used to it.

These are smooth riding, I think smoother than the Dunlops @ 32 PSI. Pressure on the KO2s was at 36, tried 40 and got a rougher ride but no improvement in mpg.

Really, really wanted Cooper ST Maxx tires, but the size I wanted was on national back order, and these were on hand and less expensive. Cooper, you can't sell 'em if you ain't got 'em!

Between the tires and wheels, I can actually see the lift now, with the stock tires I had to look at a stock truck to really see it.

Update, swapped the 275/70/17 LR E tires for 265/70/17 LR C tires. Loved every thing about the 275s except the weight related issues; no power and sucky mileage. I've now learned a few things about tires and 4x4s, still more to learn I'm sure but I'll stick with the 265s for now.

Mod Eight: Pelfreybilt bumper. Hell of a wait, but sure nice.

Picture here also are the 265/70/17 LR C tires, fuel mileage as shown seems to be around 15.4 in town, and 16 highway. That's according to the Ultragauge anyway.

Thanks! Soon as I get the bumper paid off I'll be ordering some armor. Only been a year but the build is taking too long!

    Mod 10 ordered.
Also ordered the bronze bushing and tools from ECGS for the front diff, had the dreaded vibration suddenly appear Monday. Just had the front diff oil changed last week, doubt that had any to do with it, probably coincidence.

Mod 11: Smittybilt 98495 XRC Synthetic Rope Winch - 9500 lb. Load Capacity

Install was straight forward, I installed the control box over the motor because over the rope would have interfered with the hood latch brackets. Only thing that didn't work out was the bolts for the fairhead were too short to make it through the aluminum Pelfreybilt bumper. $11 worth of stainless hardware from Lowe's fixed it up, had to use SAE bolts since Lowe's doesn't carry stainless metric that large.

CBI ditch light bracket to hold a 3' Firestick. Had to do a bit of grinding to keep it from interfering with the hood hinge, not happy with this product. Need to take it back off and add a gusset where it bends up from the mounting.

Still need an antenna cable and a CB, can't find a mounting location for the small Uniden CB I got for Christmas.

Mod 10 finally compete, installed the ECGS bushing. Vibration around 35-50 seems to be gone. Yeah! It was getting annoying.

I ordered everything associated from East Coast Gear Supply: bushing, bearing puller, bushing driver, and oil seal.
    http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-8536125-toyota-8-clamshell-bushing-eliminates-needle-bearing.html

Wouldn't have wanted to do this alone, fortunately my 16 year old son wanted to help and was invaluable several times.

One trick to getting the axle out, put a socket on one of the differential mounting bolts to use as the fulcrum point when prying out the axle shaft.

If you damage the oil seal putting it in, Federal Mogal 710596, my local O'Reilly's Auto Parts had one in stock.

Total time was about 5 hours, taking our time and not getting in a hurry.

Now, back to mod 13, or tackling the Taco lean, or relocating the 7 Pin, or ......

Getting ready for Jambo and a Memorial Day trip to the Durango, Colorado area: Green Stuff brake pads, Wheeler's stainless brake hoses front and rear, stuff to address the Taco-lean, and U-bolt flip kit. Hopefully all going on this weekend while I swap sides with the rear springs and replace the rear shoes an turn the rotors and drums. Hope the brakes feel better when I'm done, couldn't get my mechanic to do it last time I had it in for service because he didn't think anything was wrong, worst pedal feel I've experienced on a vehicle. Will be looking for new clunking and bearing noises while up front too.
Also gotta stop procrastinating and relocate the 7-pin and get the trailer brake controller installed, plus remove the side steps and mud flaps to avoid damaging them at Barnwell.
