Anyone ever run into a grinding belt sound on your 3rd gen?

I see a lot of threads on TW about belt squeal and or the TSB which applies to a few folks.
However, I have yet to see anyone that appears to have the random sound I get when I turn on my AC.

    Video>> https://youtube.com/shorts/tkiMAgw4Fww

    Technical details>>
Sound happens between the 6-7 second mark RIGHT as I turn on the AC.
The vehicle has to sit for about a week otherwise I don't get the sound.
Vehicle can be running for a while, but if the AC hasn't been cycled for about a week I'll get this sound when I do finally turn it on.
Belt seems fine, but will inspect closer here soon.
There are times it's louder / quieter and this first video is somewhere in the middle.

Model: 2019 Tacoma TRD OffRoad M/T
    Miles: 27,553

I plan on getting another recording here soon, and will continue to update my post with each video etc as I dig into it.
Also will be re-visiting the dealer to see what they say once I have a second video.

Hopefully this isn't repetitive, and a departure from the normal belt squeal threads, as mine's kind of different and I wasn't able to get much traction in the older threads.

    Oh wow, interesting.

You are the first person I've run across that has the same noise, as most others have a squeal or something.

How many miles do you have on your Tacoma?

This Friday I'll be stopping by the dealer (with 2 videos) on the way home and see what they say as I try and dig more into it.

Depending on a few variables I'll probably pick up a spare belt to be safe.
Maybe swap the new one onto the truck, keep the other as a spare and see if the noise goes away.

I'll let you know if I find anything though!

For sure, I have right around 43,000 miles, I already had to replace the serpentine belt due to excessive squeaking for some reason so It really could be anything. I work from home so my truck sits for a few days at a time before I take it anywhere. Typically it does it after 3-4 days of sitting and then when I turn on the AC to medium. I've also noticed it has a weird "pulsing" idle if I'm driving around with the AC on but goes away once I turn it off. It could be related but I'm not sure.

Aw man, I was really hoping a new belt would do the trick.

My situation is basically the same, once every other week I go into a customer site and maybe twice a year I go into the office.

If this amounts to being a situation similar to the clutch pedal squeak I'm cool with that, but what I don't want to do is ignore something I don't fully understand and then wind up paying more for a repair down the road.

Hopefully video number 2 this Thursday night will be better as I'll be under the hood while my wife kicks on the AC and I can better hear where the sound is coming from. It also lugs the engine enough that I'm interested if the belt is slipping...but hard to tell yet.

Again come Friday, we'll see what the dealer says. :fingerscrossed:

    Edit to add **

Assuming 2nd gens are similar to 3rd gens, appears that for 1 dude had some loose bolts causing his sound.

    Worth picking through I reckon.

Is it definitely coming from the compressor area (engine bay) and not the fan (glove box)? I would maybe see if a mechanic can take a stethoscope to your AC compressor area to see if the clutch is starting to make some noise. Being that it's an "at start up noise" I would assume clutch but also might be a bad assumption since it's so infrequent, and the clutch engages/disengages all the time.

Yeah, I actually pulled open the glove-box and inspect the blower motor as some have been cracked with low miles etc (Found a leaf in there and sucked it out).

I've thought about that too, but I'll try to let the dealer figure it out assuming I still have some warranty left.
I can 100% re-create it without fail given a few days of not using the truck.
The longer the wait, the louder it is...:bananadead:

For example, this video is me starting the truck when only waiting a day and I get no noise.

Also going to update the original post with related threads that speak to the issue as I see this dating back to 2010 for some folks.
A lot of data to sift through unfortunately, but quiet a few folks appear to have the same issue.

Bummer, I wasn't able to re-create the sound on video for demo #2.

I was messing around under the hood and was spinning the AC compressor trying to feel/listen to everything and may have messed up my own experiment for all I know.

I also had a work thing and wasn't able to stop by the dealer so I'll update this later when I know more.

I'm 100% suspicious of the AC compressor now that I've dug more into the issue and all I can think about is maybe something on the inside of that thing is weird/it's low on oil/it's over-charged.

Obviously I don't know but will see if I can find anything meaningful to pass on as time allows.

Took another week, but I got a second video of the noise.

    https://youtube.com/shorts/7QEN65ArgII

I'll have to visit the dealer tomorrow with both video's and see what they say.

The sound, and from what I can gather, feels like it's the belt slipping almost due to the AC compressor not wanting to turn over or something.
Only after the AC compressor clutch engages does the sound happen.

I suppose there's a chance something with the clutch somehow is making sound, but that seems less likely.

Overall I verified everything else is in order so not quite sure whats going on.

I used my teleporting seeing into the future device and the dealership said it is normal and to come back when the your warranty has expired. The manager needs a new boat :)

Hot dang, that went better with the dealer then I thought it would.

I ran out of the bumper to bumper warranty which means I now only have the powertrain warranty.

So if I schedule an inspection, and something is found everything is covered.
If nothing is found, then I cover the cost of the inspection.

As my warranty runs out in 2024 or until I hit 60,000 miles I may dig into this/let it get worse...idk.

I would hate to take it in and have them say nothing is wrong, as I'd be out $160.

All that to say, I'll post meaningful updates here down the road in the hopes of potentially helping others should this be a sign of a bad AC Compressor or something else.
    (I'm all about preventative maintenance)
