I’ve never owned or built a 4x4 truck before, been always into dropped hondas and 2wd trucks. Decided to pick up my first 4x4 Tacoma in 2016 so I can start taking advantage of the island of Kauai’s best beaches that require driving on the sand, to not worry about bottoming out when overloading the bed with rubbish and the overall convenience of having a 4wd truck.
This will be a “Build Thread”. To provide everyone with a list of what I’ve done so far, to share my future plans for the truck and to be open to any input or suggestions, whether it be positive or negative in regards to the truck. Looking forward to sharing my build and receiving feedback from you all!

I own a 4wd 99 Toyota Tacoma Ex. Cab/ Base Model with a 3.4. Bought it Stock Height and Automatic. Got my friend to do a 6 inch Fab w/ 3 inch spacers along with the 5speed Swap back in June 2018. Between the two years I’ve owned the truck, a lot of things got done to it, both in and out. Here’s my Specs/ Mods List:

    Under the Hood:
    K&N Intake

(Will edit later when I get the chance to think about more of what I’ve done)

This is how it looked when I first got it. Stock height with 4th Gen. 4Runner Wheels:

Been on the look out for a while and finally found the set I’ve been looking for at that time. Stock height with 5th Gen. 4Runner Limited Wheels:

Here’s some shots along with descriptions of what got done and in some cases, links of what thread I visited to help get the job done.

Came with the basic map light setup, so I went with the 4Runner Style with the switch in the middle of the unit to allow the map lights to turn on when the doors open. Of course with the Broadway Mirror.

Went with the 4Runner pieces that cover the nuts/ screws for the mirror. Then replaced the tweeters with Kicker tweeters.

Installed both the Ignition Light Ring from a 99 Tacoma SR5 and a Amber/ Orange Clock from a 01 Tacoma. I believe I spliced into the map lights for the Light Ring, so they only turn on when my doors are open. As for the clock, it’s simple where all you have to do is remove the old piece that was there and replace it with the piece with the clock and it’s plug and play!

Now for a lot of DIY stuff.
All Black with Red Tubing Wet Okole Seat Covers with the arm rest cover as well. Black “Plush Velour” Dash Mat from https://www.dashdesigns.com/ and a Black Soft Suede Steering Wheel Cover from O’Reillys that paired well together.

01-04 Center Console/ Arm Rest. The parts truck that I had, had a lot of stuff I could use, so I just took whatever I needed for my build. I also really liked the Double Compartment Feature as well as the Cup Holders vs. the older style setup. Black Leather Shift Boot and Black “TRD” Shift Knob both ordered off eBay. Whole Center Console Setup and 4wd Shift Knob was sprayed with DupliColor Vinyl/ Fabric Flat Black Paint. Came out looking good and totally beats both pieces being two different colors. Gonna have to respray the console when I get the time to do so.

Custom Kick Panels, made by a buddy of mine (IG: https://instagram.com/pressure_garage_808_?utm_source=ig_profile_share&igshid=1xmxgrz024kio) with Kicker Speakers and Kicker Tweeters. Also had to cut Brand New Weathertech Floormats to have them fit properly.

Probably one of my favorite pieces. Custom Subwoofer Enclosure with Blue LED Strips and my shop logo that lights up. Also made by @pressure_garage_808_ Made to fit snug in the middle of two passengers in the rears. 12 inch Obsidian Sub. Peep the SR5 Back Rest and Cushion.

Now on to a few minor Exterior Modifications:

Removed the Smaller Sized Side View Mirrors to Install the Bigger Sized 01-04 Chrome Mirrors. Also swapped out the brittle Black Door Handles with Chrome Door Handles.
    EB74103B-9465-4246-9DDF-E858B07D5628.jpg

Liked the look of the 2wd Grille on the truck instead of the 4wd one so why not? Also “installed” with double stick tape a “TEQ” Emblem.
    F9E52054-7794-4876-A4D9-3AFB5E01C3E2.jpg

Clear Corners, Crystal Clear Headlights and Topped it off with Clear Turn Signals.

Carbon Fiber Hydrodipped Ebay Short Antenna.
    EE9F0ED9-411A-4504-AB07-28507B255F6B.jpg

Loved the color on these Smoked OE Style 01-04 Taillights so that was a must.
    B75E1C87-4426-429D-B648-48287138FA11.jpg

Had to match the Tails with a Smoked Third Brake Lens. Also got rid of the 4 Piece Back Window and went with a One Piece Back Window, which I then decided to “Sticker Bomb”.

Here’s how it currently sits with 1.5 Inch Wheel Spacers. 2018 Toyota 4Runner Trail Edition Wheels wrapped in A/T Tires.

I think that covered everything for now. Let me know your thoughts or how you folks feel about everything that’s going on in there.

Been a while TW, here’s a small update. Enjoy!
Now sporting a “wider look”. Got rid of the Mavericks and scored me a set of 15x14 Weld Typhoons Wrapped in Boggers/ 31s.

Photo of my Clear Taillight Lens Collection. These are all manufactured the way they are and NOT Spray Painted. I’m in the market of purchasing more if available or if the price is right.

When fitting the 20x12 Mavericks, did you need any spacers to clear the brake caliper or suspension components?

My apologies. May be a little late for a reply but when running the Mavericks, I did not use spacers
