Maybe this should be in the towing forum but it seemed like a toss up between the two. Anyways I've been thinking this over for months now that I want to upgrade from from my decked out/pimped out 14ft Jon boat to a real bass boat 17-18ft glass with a 115-150hp motor this winter. I have my 10' 2.7L AC 4x4 5 speed to drag it around with. Figured I'd throw this out here and see if anyone else has or has had a similar setup to this. The package will be within the 3500lb capacity of my truck. I know itll be slow but i drive like a granny anyway when towing, really just curious on how slow. Good news is its pretty flat here in south NJ so no real mountains to contend with. Not worried about mpg. Having the 4x4 model Ill be able to use 4 low on the steep ramps, so no concern there, and the trailer will have brakes. Ive towed a couple big things before short distance and it was better than expected but i fish alot. Like...alot. Thanks in advance for any replies

    Ps. Pics get bonus points!:D

I have yet to tow with my 2013 AC 2.7 but my previous experiences with 4cyl Tacoma towing has been remarkably surprising. Best advice is to keep within the manufacturers guidelines but Toyota 4cyl are capable of so much more than 3500lbs they are labeled for.

I have to share my experiences. In 1996 I was 16 and my dad bought a 95 dealer left over 5 spd 2.4 Tacoma xtra cab. He was a traveling salesman selling nursery products through a catalog but carried a lot of samples (400-800lbs everyday) about 75k miles a year. We also had some property that we tended to. We peddled a little bit of used farm equipment to. This little truck saw more work than most 1 tons. My dad even admitted to how hard he pushed this little truck, often pulling as much as 8k lbs trailers across the property, taking 3-4k lbs trailers down the hwy on 300 mile trips about once a week. Frequently pulling out stuck fullsize 4x4's even though it was 2wd. Being young and stupid I often would redline the truck racing from light to light, it was actually pretty quick for what it was. On Fathers Day 2000 I was riding with my father and he pulled out in front of a kid in another Tacoma, totaling both of them. It had 315k miles when we said goodbye, a lot of memories in the truck, I took it on some dates, and did a lot of work out of it to. I would say the little Taco had 25k miles worth of towing heavy trailers. I had a 4cyl Nissan 4x4 that shared work loads with it, 4k lbs trailers a lot. My Dad got a Ranger 3.0 to replace the Taco, after 75k miles the transmission was toast.
Eventually he would find his was back to Toyotas, he has been through several, mostly all 4cyl Tacomas.
