Is the camera now wired directly to the battery or an ignition switched source of power?

It's now wired directly to the battery.

You could also just tap any power wire, ignition or constant

Thanks, my plan is to spend some time going through all my connections and clean up all the excess wire. I'm also adding an auxiliary fuse block so I'll probably end up writing it to that.

I need to do an auxiliary block as well as i got lots of electrical mods, but not sure how to proceed about cleaning it all up. A separate thread dedicated to that would be very helpful to many taco owners!!!! Make it happen!!!

That was my logic too: truck deserves a good camera, and, I’d rather spend another $20 in hopes I didn’t have to replace it due to premature failure.

I wired up an aux box and put it right on top of my aux fuse box under the hood. It has worked great and was easy to do.

There are many threads on fuse boxes, some simple and some very complex. It all depends on how many accessories you plan to use. I almost opted for an SPOD to do switches and power but it was mode than I really needed.

    Regarding Aux Fuse Panels-
In my original post I included this picture of my set up. I opted for a simple system with some key components. I did not go with a Blue Sea fuse panel, though they are popular. I got a simple 6 blade option off Amazon that allows me to swap in standard auto fuses in various amp loads. I purchased a 100A circuit breaker which I highly recommend for a couple reasons. First it that it protects the entire fuse panel from ever being overloaded. Secondly, and my main reason for it, is that I can easily throw the switch (red button sticking up) to open the circuit and work on any of my accessories without having to unplug or unscrew any power leads. I purchased 2 jumper battery leads from an auto parts store to move the positive power from the battery terminal to the circuit breaker, then to the fuse panel. Each accessory, with this set up, has its ground wired locally or right next to the fuse panel where the factory ground is. Some panels allow you to ground back to the panel. I looked at different mounting options but decided to mount right to the top of the engine fuse lid, just be sure to take it off and check that your screws don’t interfere when the lid is closed. If you do this option you’ll want the extra slack in the jumper leads and aux devices so you can still remove the lid to access underneath. Not fancy, but this set up has been rock solid for me.

Did the tan circuit work to light it up. I have mine all wired up but it does not have light to it YET. Is #7 and tan wire the way to go?

The tan wire off the rear bed light switch will give you dash lights but as to your specific switch I’m not sure. I didn’t wire up my DPDT

Thanks I just tapped into the tan and it worked but only when the headlights lights are actually switched on. It also only illuminated front camera rear camera letters when switched into that direction. I have the toggle switch seen in previous pics. Does anyone know how to make the camera icon only light up in the on neutral position? Or does it even light up.

What high res camera did you have the best luck with? I'm realizing these things are probably like generic Arduino boards, where they're all very similar on paper, but the quality control can be all over the map from one manufacturer to the next.

The company that made my original camera is sending me a new one, but I'm leaning toward just putting that in the parts bin and getting a camera with a better field of view and resolution that is similar to the factory reverse camera.

Speaking of which, does anyone know what the factory camera's resolution is, or what the max resolution is for the head unit?

Not sure on the HU resolution, but I’ve been happy with my camera and clarity. I used it for 6 days straight in Death Valley, I just kept it on as I navigated off road to spot my line and tight turns

Great write up, I actually used it to do mine yesterday. I have the Chuanganzhuo camera (think its the same as yours). How did you get the camera to flip the image? Mine shows backwards when turned on due to being on the front of the vehicle.

Was wondering about it being reversed when I installed it yesterday. Will have to cut the green wire today and see.

For that camera the post needs to be horizontal and facing backwards, not vertical for the orientation to work. Even cutting the green wire won’t work. I ammended my original thread post awhile back saying that I changed out my camera and put a link at the bottom of that first post.

This camera has a toggle button and you kept switching it till you finally get the correct image. This camera has the post going up vertically through the grille. That other camera I had to put inside the O of my TOYOTA pro grille.
