I also have the wheelers 5 pack. they're sweet. Beefier than stock, holds some more weight. But they're not monsters; they're not too stiff or anything. I like them a lot.

    Not necessarily.
Dakar is one of the best buys if not the best buy in a complete leaf spring for the Tacoma.
And it has a custom extra leaf option. ($375 - $400 pair)

A custom spring might cost $250 - $300 each plus installation.

OME Dakar's. Love 'em. Take a look at Downsouth Motorsports. They are a vendor on here and the website says they offer free shipping to the lower 48. I picked mine up from them so no shipping for me.

    :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup: :D

I know I keep banging the drum on this DIY, after a year of hauling shit, beating the hell out of them offroad, whether its 70mph down a wash or 7mph down a boulder strew trail, my rebuilts have performed flawlessly & still retain the 3" lift.

There are 3 other members here I've rebuilt their leafpacks & 2 more builds pending, all 2nd gens, looking for more 1st gens here that aren't afraid of pulling the trigger on this MOD, not hard, def. not expensive & this is in no way to be compared to an AAL, it is so much better & beyond that, i've said before so I'll say it again, I will match my 5 leaf rebuilts against any comparable name brand after market spring for performance, reliability, etc;.....;)

Ya know, i'm thinking about putting a few of these together, ready to install w/hardware needed already installed or put a few "build kits" for 1st & 2nd gens. together & see what happens, I'm just thinking that alot of guys want to say they've got the "Deavers,Dakars,Alcans, etc" & these are all great springs but no better than what I'm doing from the feedback I'm getting from the guys running OMD now, at a recent SoCal run to Barstow there was a member or 2 that rode in Matt's (Recklesstaco) truck commenting on how nice the ride was over the whoops & didn't bottom out , the guy commenting was running Allpro springs (don't know which ones tho') & was getting the hell beat out of him all weekend......

    so i dunno, we'll see what happens:D

    Well, almost.....

I rebuild off the stock leafs using the main ( one with eyeletts) & secondary spring. Seems most here believe that once the spring is flat or even frowning that they're history, this just isn't true...

Now you could call this an AAL only because you ARE adding leafs, but thats where it ends , I incorporate the use of leafs from Ford & Chevy
(after doing csjumper2003's springs think I'm going more towards Chevy springs tho' ) The steel is American for one thing, the tensile strength is better (retains better arc) & no way are they soft & shitty like the Toyota springs they still use today, BUT !! the magic here is the first 1" or 2" of spring compression w/stock Toy springs give the nice cushy ride which is fine for the street/on road, its not till some demands (not even big demands) are made for more aggressive compression from offroading do the stock springs fall into the FAIL category.

Now take that first 1" I spoke of & back them up with some higher/harder quality springs (Ford.Chevy) & what you end up with is a firmer (yet still comfortable ) ride that won't beat the shit out of you on road, now go hit a trail, put all fours in the air if you wish, & when you brace yourself for that bone jarring, bottoming out landing that you just KNOW is coming

isn't going to happen, believe me I've done it a few times with excellent results with no damage & no loss of arc....

Time wise with at least 2 floor jacks & a couple jackstands, basic tools needed. If one has a little mech. ability (& an extra set of hands, i've done it by myself but better with a little help) give yourself a whole day from start to finish & not really busting your ass to get it done. This assuming you already have the extra springs ,etc; there & ready to go.

Which brings me to this statement:

People will ask "Where do you get the springs for rebuild?"

Ok, hold on to your shorts, here it is...........

    wrecking yard/junk yard
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This right here, I think is what turns most off to this MOD, they see the words "wrecking" & "junkyard"

& immediately think of some thrown together mish mash of old crappy parts, if anyone has seen pics of springs I build after I'm done most think they are new

I'm old school & started offroading trucks/jeeps/etc; in San Diego in the early/mid '70's. There were no offroad shops & literallly nothing in the way of aftermarket products, so whatever MOD you did it was R&D 101. it was either a hit or a miss, nothing like it is today....

I LOVE my AllPro Expos. They are stiff, but I love that I can haul stuff. I got about 4.25" of lift in the rear with them. I like the rake, makes it look mean, and makes it look like it can actually haul stuff in the bed without bro-leaning.

Can't say much for shipping on them, as I had them personally delivered by Jon from AllPro :D
